Badge. Princess Victoria’s (Royal Irish Fusiliers) Victorian OR’s glengarry grenade circa 1881-90. Scarce pattern die-stamped brass flaming grenade, the ball bearing eagle within circlet inscribed “Royal Irish Fusiliers 8”. (KK 969). The Eagle and tablet inscribed “8” represents the Eagle on the flagstaff of the 8th French Light Infantry captured by Sergeant Patrick Masterson of the 87th Fusiliers at Barossa on 5th March 1811. Slight polish to eagle’s breast otherwise GC. Loops

Approx 22 mm Raised at Enniskillen in 1793 as Fermanagh Militia, redesignated Light Infantry in 1855, became 3rd Bn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 1st July 1881.
