After Correggio (c.1489-1534) "The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine" Oil on canvas, 28.5cm by 20.5cm A 19th century painting. Thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. Extensive areas of wide spaced stable brittle age age craquelure to entire surface but particulalry to the left hand side of the painting. Also further patches of drying craquelure, mainly concentrated to the top left hand corner but not exclusively. Associated paint losses in evidence, for example the canvas is visible due to flaked paint within the green of the robe. Other tiny nicks to the paint elsewhere Further small areas of thinning paint and surface abrasion in evidence. Stretcher shadow. Sporadic patches of what looks to be possible spots of surface bloom or splashes of water damage. Repaired hole in right hand bottom corner. Not examined under UV light. Please see images.
