In the late 1950s, Stirling Moss was involved in designing a race suit for Dunlop and continued over many years to favour these lightweight, light blue suits. He had them tailor-made in Bangkok, a favourite place of Stirling's. He once stated to our vendor that the "Quality was better and more importantly they are cheaper" which was typical of the prudent businessman he was. This is the actual racing suit which Stirling wore at Le Mans in 2011 whilst racing his newly restored Porsche. After qualifying, Stirling arrived in the pits, exited the car and announced his retirement from racing to Radio Le Mans after an incredible 60 years. Our vendor was present with him as he had known Stirling would retire at Le Mans and travelled down with him.A book with images of Stirling wearing this actual race suit whilst racing and retiring that day will accompany the item which is, complete with a woven BRDC badge and sponsors labels.Gifted to our vendor on return to London at Stirling's Mayfair home. Please contact Shan Stokes on 07890 0933372 / shan@silverstoneauctions.com to discuss the lot in more detail.
