The support and paint layers are in a good condition overall. The paint layers are applied in a thin, smooth manner. The darker paint passages have developed a slight texture as it has dried. There are small areas of overpaint around the edges of the panel and on the sitter’s hand. The varnish is very matte and has yellowed with age. There is a light layer of surface dirt with brown accretions.

Cosmo himself entered Barclay, Bevan, Tritton and Co. as a partner in 1882, became the Lombard Street director at the time of the amalgamation and later replaced his uncle, Wilfred Arthur Bevan (1845-1905) as a director of Barclays in 1905.Condition report: Oil on canvas which has not been lined and has an artists’ supplier stamp for Winsor & Newton on the reverse. The canvas tension is slightly slack but the picture is in plane with minor undulations following the horizontal stretcher bar behind. The canvas and paint layers are in a very good condition overall. The varnish layer has yellowed with age and is uneven in gloss but generally acceptable overall. There is a light layer of surface dirt present with a few white accretions.

Rolls Royce car mascot for the 20HP model 1922-1929. Cast in solid nickel silver with the correct copper mounting stud. The mascot is marked under the wings with the trade mark REG and the REG Us Patent Office, it is further signed to the base Charles Sykes with RR Ltd and the date February 6th 1911, this date continued to be used after first being introduced on the early silver ghost mascot. The mascot has good detail with light patina.
