Not hallmarked, but tests as silver. Small dents visible on close inspection, with some unevenness to the edges, but nothing too detrimental. Light surface scratches.

Guild of Handicraft Ltd: a silver box, London 1903, with an enamel plaque by Fleetwood Charles Varley (1863-1942), decorated with trees, the sea beyond, signed 'Varley' to lower left corner, of rectangular form with hammered finish on four bun feet, inscribed 'Lady Day 1844-1904' to the front side, 4.5 cm high x 12.5 cm x 9.5cm, (365g).Dent to back right corner of the cover. Small area of enamel missing to left hand side (see image), and rubbing to the edges where it meets the silver. Similar small area of enamel loss/rubbing to the centre, between the two trees. Hairline cracks visible to the underside of the enamel. Silver is tarnished in places, with light scratches to the underside.

A Hunting Hanger with Silver and Moss-agate Hilt, silver maker’s mark of William Knight of London, circa 1690/96, the hilt formed of a polished agate grip swelling to form a flat-sided pommel with projecting tips and capped by a chased silver washer seating a silver button, a silver collar enclosing the base, struck with the silver maker’s mark, silver crosspiece moulded at its centre, with short quillons with disc terminals each cast in relief with a horseman; the blade retaining traces of an etched classical figure at its base (blade with wear and light pitting), blade length 48cmWilliam Knight (recorded 1678- circa 1702) was a maker of silver sword and bayonet hilts and cutlery, having been sworn free of the Grocers’ Company by servitude in 1685. Knight was active in New Street in the Parish of St. Brides, in the City of London ward of Farringdon Without, and is recorded in the Land Tax Assessment book as working there in 1692. The present hilt bears Knight’s first mark, WK conjoined in a shield; this was succeeded by his second mark in 1697. Provenance: By tradition, George Venables Vernon of Sudbury (b. 1709/10 – d. 1786), created Lord Vernon, Baron Kinderton by letters patent in 1762. This entitlement had descended through his mother, the Kinderton male line having become extinct upon the death of his maternal grandfather in 1669.

Some light scratching and grubbiness can be seen. The stopper appears to be an orange coloured agate and show signs of historic glue residue.

A Parian ware 'Well Spring Vase' designed by Richard Redgrave (1804-1888), of ovoid form with foliate handles, the body relief moulded with bladed foliage, 22cm high NOTE: Redgrave's vase was created for Henry Cole's Summerly's Art Manufactures, which aimed to encourage artists to design functional objects. The design was handed over in 1847 and manufactured in porcelain and Parian versions by Minton. This lot is unmarked, but believed to be a mid 19th century example by Minton. Condition report: The vase shows minor firing cracks to both lower handle terminals.  Areas of the interior of the vase are somewhat translucent when held up to light.  The piece shows ingrained dirt across the surface, and small nibbles to the tips of the handles, but no obvious damage or signs of restoration.

* Two pairs of interlined duck egg foliate damask curtains, embellished with silver coloured thread, with conforming tie-backs, 285cm H x 300cm W, and 285cm H x 200cm W (measurements approximate) Condition report:  The pattern repeat is 55cm in length. Some fading particularly to the centre of the curtains, and to edges where light has caught (both pairs) Interior edges of curtains are in good condition with no fraying. Curtains have been swagged back 1/3 of way up, but with no evidence of permanent damage. Cotton lining without obvious stains or marks. No obvious aroma. Pleats to the top with hook and eye attachment.

Movement board also possibly later, indicating some historic restoration. Some light fading wear to the dial. Otherwise general light marks and fading commensurate with age. Backboard appear original. Later lock to the door.

* A George III mahogany cased eight day longcase clock, signed Read, Tarporley, the moulded twin swan neck pediment with flower head terminals over gilt embellished glazed panels, extending to freestanding fluted pillars flanking the 33cm gilt metal and silvered break arch dial, with a painted moon phase over the dial applied with Roman and Arabic numerals, enclosing a subsidiary second dial and date aperture along with the makers name, the two train movement striking on a saucer bell, the trunk with a dentil frieze and blind fretwork frieze above a shaped and beaded door flanked by conforming quarter pilasters, the lower board with applied beaded detail, conforming blind fretwork canted corners, upon bracket feet, 225cm H, two weights and pendulum, running and keeping time, by repute the kitchen clock of Joseph Dutton, Burland Hall Condition report:  Top of hood some evidence of historic worm. Clock glass appears to be later.Bocks added to inside of hood, indicating evidence of restoration. Some light wear to the gilt detail, tarnishing to the chapter ring and then centre of dial. Some light fading, rubbing, wear, minor gouges and scratches to case and lower panel.

* A 17th century oak Wainscot chair, the shaped top rail with three roundels over a back panel carved with flowerhead and leaf detail, above a board seat enclosed by downswept armrests and cylindrical supports, upon conforming turned font supports and plain rear legs, united by peripheral cross stretchers, seat height 49cm, 107cm H x 68cm W x 56cm D Condition report:  Some evidence of historic worm to the feet, and cross stretchers. Rear stretcher with possible historic repair. Bracing bar applied to the rear of the chair. Very minor evidence of worm in the seat boards, with small chip to front right hand corner. Otherwise general scuffs, marks and light gouges commensurate with age and use.

* A 17th style carved oak Flemish bookcase, 19th century, the cornice carved with scrolling foliate detail punctuated by relief carved lion masks over an arrangement of three open shelves, upon the breakfront base with a gadroon and lion mask frieze above five cupboard doors carved with arcaded figural scenes and punctuated by figural terms, upon a profusely carved plinth base, 240cm H x 194cm W x 43cm DCondition report:  Bookcase appears to be fixed, will requite some disassembly to be removed. Upper rail of bookcase shelves appears fixed, will need to be dismantled for transportation. Pediment possibly earlier with cut away sections to both sides, probably later constructed. Some minor losses to carving on three uprights. Moulding missing from some carvings. Otherwise no visible evidence of woodworm. Very light rubbing and fading to carvings commensurate with age.

* A late 19th century three seater sofa, in the manner of Howard & Sons, the undulating back rest extending to padded scrolled arms enclosing the three seat cushions, upon front bun feet inset with castors, later re-covered in William Morris type bird and foliage pattern fabric, 84cm H x 200cm W x 94cm D Please note: This lot is not part of the Tushingham Hall Collection Condition report:  Minor amount of play to backrest, particularly to left hand side. Minor play to left arm. Springs appear soft, although comfortable (tested by 6'2" individual) Some slight 'bulging' to the springs at the rear of the backrest. Light fading/staining to the fabric.
