WILLIAM GARLAND (19th century); oil on canvas, study of two spaniels, signed and dated 1856, 62 x 74cm, framed. Additional InformationThe canvas is very dirty, there are areas where it is compressed in parts and lifting in others, there are impressed lines where the rear stretcher has pushed against the canvas, the most serious area of loss is to the lower section where there is heavy craquelure, this is throughout the image but noticeably at the bottom is flaked in parts and there are a couple of small losses elsewhere. Light scratches also to the image and the dog on the left has had some overpainting to the face. There are a couple of tiny holes to the canvas.

THOMAS JACQUES SOMERSCALES (1842-1927); oil on canvas, `Strait of Magellan, near Hassler Glacier', signed and dated 1904 lower right and indistinctly titled verso, 30.5cm x 46cm, unframed.Additional InformationThe title in ink verso is very hard to read and it is not conclusive that 'Hassler' is the name of the glacier.  The image is in untouched original condition and has general age dirt throughout, some gilt paint residue from a frame, a couple of slight blemishes to the left and a few light scratches. Colour bright and overall appearance ok. The back grubby and with foxing spots.
