The second saucer with a few very light glaze scratches which again do not detract

A pair of Minton Aesthetic Movement vases designed by Dr Christopher Dresser, of bottle shape on trompe l'oeil stands, painted in impasto colours with primroses and other flowers on a turquoise ground, the flared neck with gilt collar, 22cm h, faint impressed marks, c1869 Minton Shape no1382. ++Typical, mainly light localised crazing of the glaze where more thickly applied. Slight wear to the gilding in places but attractive. No restoration.

A pair of George III oval chambersticks and three other chambersticks, with vase shaped or waisted sconce and nozzle and reeded or beaded rims, the pair with conical extinguisher and engraved with the initial J, 10cm h, all London, by Elizabeth Jones, 1792, the others by Robert Jones, 1777 & 1779 or by Solomon Hougham, 1802, 42ozs Provenance: The initial is that of Captain John Jones of St Helens, Swansea. ++Oval examples - general light scratches and wear. One extinguisher lacking the finial, on one the handle re-attached. The three other examples all showing signs of wear. One of the R Jones chambersticks with large repair on the underside. The nozzle on the Howam example an early 19th c Birmingham replacement, the extinguisher a Sheffield Plate replacement. The extinguisher on the other R Jones example an unmarked contemporary replacement.

No repairs the marks good

A much above average pair, the engraving still crisp. On one the duty mark only slightly rubbed

A George III gold hunting cased duplex watch, the movement signed Barwise LONDON, No 5373 and with gold balance and diamond endstone, the enamelled dial numbered as the movement and with gold hands, in engraved case, case maker L C a device above, London 1811 ++Wanting the glass from the bezel and lacking the second hand, the movement apparently complete and in good condition although apparently not in going order. The case with light wear and superficial scratches consistent with the age

An Edward VII silver slip-case, one end of the pillar shaped case formed as a 'jig' for withdrawing a spent cartridge from a gun, the interior containing ten numbered ivory slips, 5.5cm h, engraved Rd 451968, by J C Vickery, London 1905 ++A few very light scratches consistent with light use/occasional polishing but complete, no damage or restoration
Crime. Lord William Russell's snuff box, the French pressed burr maple box lined in gold and with chased thumbpiece, the lid mounted with a cabochon in a gold rosette, the underside stained, 8.5cm diam, early 19th c; with a broadside - THE TRIAL CONFESSION AND EXECUTION OF F.B. COURVOISIER for the MURDER OF LORD WILLIAM RUSSELL, woodcut illustrations [London:] Paul & Co, 7 Dials, 65 x 41cm [1840] framed; Bridges (Y) Two Studies in Crime, two copies, 1959; three other books on the Russell family (7) Literature: Bridges (Y), Two Studies in Crime, 1959, illus plt 2. Lord William Russell (1767-1840) was murdered by his 23 year old Swiss valet Francois Benjamin Courvoisier at his house, 14 Norfolk Street, Mayfair on the night of 6 May 1840. The motive was robbery. The victim was the uncle of the Duke of Bedford and also of Lord John Russell, Secretary of State for the Colonies and subsequently Prime Minister. Within hours of the discovery of the crime Prince Albert informed Queen Victoria of Russell's apparent suicide at which she was very shocked. Later the same day Lord John Russell informed the Queen in person of his uncle's murder. The present snuff box was discovered beneath the bloodstained pillow of Lord William's bed. The murderer was soon apprehended and hanged. A MACABRE MEMENTO OF ONE OF THE MOST NOTORIOUS MURDERS IN THE ANNALS OF 19TH CENTURY CRIMINOLOGY. ++In fine condition with a light straight line scratch on the lid
An Edward VII silver spherical scent bottle and cover, embossed with flowers and rocaille, 11cm h, by J H Wynn, Birmingham 1905; a silver-mounted glass square scent bottle in silver openwork stand, by S Blanckensee & Son Ltd, Birmingham 1925 (2) ++The first with some light localised wear on the relief decoration but in basically good condition. The second in good condition
A George II silver heart shaped nutmeg grater, the lid engraved with a flower, name PHEBE [sic] SOLOMON and 1736, the date altered to read '1696', the hinged base engraved with a tulip between the initials 'IL', the sides with two moulded bands, 2.4cm h; 4cm long (overall), marked on lid and base, maker's mark only, by Thomas Kendrick of London, c1736 Kendrick entered his only mark, as a Smallworker in October 1731. His shop was at "Water Lane, Fleet Street, over against ye Black Lion" (Grimwade 2822). ++Tiny old solder repaired split to the tip of the hinged base and typical light old scratches and shallow dents but an excellent example considering its early date and the thin gauge of metal employed in the construction

Some light overall craquelure which is not too marked. An attractively lit composition with an approaching storm in the background, the canvas not relined and in 18th c style giltwood and composition frame
George D Callow (fl 1858-1873) FIGURES ON THE SHORE AT SEAFORD signed and dated 1872, 29 x 54cm ++In fine condition, lightly cleaned with some light overall craquelure but in otherwise excellent original condition. Not relined and in what is presumably the original ornate giltwood and composition frame with small old repair to the moulding
