THAT HAMILTON WOMAN: An unusual folio page removed from a vintage scrapbook featuring various sepia magazine photographs of different sizes, each lightly laid down to both sides of the page, all depicting Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier and other actors in various scenes from the historical drama film That Hamilton Woman (1941), based on the life of Emma Hamilton, mistress of Horatio Nelson. One of the magazine photographs (5.5 x 9, with a neatly clipped lower right corner) is signed by both Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh individually, the image showing Olivier standing in a full length pose in costume as Nelson and Leigh seated just before him in a three quarter length pose, in costume as Hamilton. Signed by Olivier with his full signature in fountain pen ink, adding his character name ('Capt. Horatio Nelson') beneath his signature and signed by Leigh in bold, dark fountain pen ink, also adding her character name ('Emma, Lady Hamilton') beneath her signature. BAKER HYLDA: (1905-1986) English Actress, Comedian and Music Hall performer. Series of two A.Ls.S. and thirteen T.Ls.S., Hylda Baker, seventeen pages (total), 8vo and 4to, various places (mainly Blackpool and London), 28th January 1957 - 3rd October 1967, all to Arthur Westwood, most on her personal printed stationery. Baker writes regarding various performances and meetings with her correspondent, as well as other aspects of her life and career etc., in part, 'I think it is a very good idea for me to have cards for members of the fan club, and I have today been in touch with the fan club secretary to do something about it...' (18th March 1957), 'I'm afraid I can't help you with a script, because to be quite truthful I don't really use scripts - I just take a situation and talk about it as I think people might, and very little of my stuff ever goes on paper' (17th April 1957), 'Yes, my car is rather nice....it is an American Ford "Fairlane 500"' (25th June 1957), 'It would be better to see me afterwards -- certainly not before as everything is at high pressure in a television show in the studios, quite different from coming to see me backstage at a theatre' (2nd November 1957), 'Yes, Rawicz and Landauer are in the season show with me for this year....Mickey [her pet Monkey] has been very ill....He has been on the verge of pneumonia. But I have been nursing him myself, and I think and hope he is improving now. I haven't made up my mind about getting him another partner yet' (6th January 1958), 'Unfortunately I have lost my other monkey, "Mickey", I also did have another one, which is called D'Arcy, at present being treated at the vets: So with all this, I haven't been very happy in consequence. However, these are things we all have to overcome' (25th March 1958), 'I am playing Mrs. Sowerberry the undertaker's wife in "Oliver" & Winnie in "Up the Junction" (3rd October 1967). The Press notices have certainly been fabulous') and Edward G. Robinson (briefly referring to Sammy Going South, 1962). A pencil annotation to the verso in the hand of a collector indicates that the autograph was obtained in person on 15th February 1977 following a performance of The Night of the Iguana (in which Chamberlain starred in the role of Rev. COGAN ALMA: (1932-1966) English Pop Singer of the 1950s and 1960s. Collection of seven T.Ls.S., Alma Cogan, seven pages, 4to and 8vo (2), London, n.d., all to Arthur Westwood. Cogan writes to her correspondent regarding various performances, engagements and travel plans involving Manchester, Liverpool, Ireland, South Africa and America and also remarking 'I would have liked to have sung a request song for your parent's Wedding Anniversary, but unfortunately, I am in “Off the Record” on Thursday, where I cannot really sing a request. However, I shall be glad to do so another time….Please give my love to your parents, and wish them a happy Wedding Anniversary….' and in another letter stating 'I should be delighted to meet you in my dressing room one evening while you are on holiday in London. If you come round to the stage door one evening….I will make arrangements for you to come round to my dressing room'.
