Provenance: Ch. Jefferson 1577 (faint inscription to title); Johann Hermann Romswinckel, 17th century protestant theologian born in Cologne, and author of Alphabetum verae, vivae et orthodoxae fidei (Basel, Georg Decker, 1658). Becon's Reliques of Rome, written in exile during the bloody reign of Mary I, and here reissued 'newly corrected and greatly augmented', is an extensive catalogue of Roman Catholic beliefs and practices which Becon argues are contrary to Scripture, as well as dangerous and idolatrous. The work begins with a Prophecie of Antichrist, and contains a lengthy preface dedicated to John, Bishop of Norwich, in which he rails against the errors of the Catholics during the period of Mary's reign: 'These adversaries of gods word, yea Eathnishe Epicures and beastly bellygods, consider not, how in the tyme of Antichrist, that is to say, of the Devill and the Pope, when all darke ignorancie, and ignorant darknesse reigned: when Papistrie and false Religion only florished: when supersticious hypocrites alone ruled and ruffled: there was muchemore scarcenesse, penurie & dearth of all things than is now in the blessed tyme of the glorious light of Christs most glorious gospell. Rede we not, that even in this Realme of England... so great penurie, scarcenesse & dearth of grayne was found, that the Inhabitantes thereof were compelled to make them bread of Pease, Beanes, Tares, Fitches, Acornes, Ferne rootes, &c? Chaunced not the like thing almost in one of the yeares of Queene Maries reigne now of late?'

A collection of six medallions presented for Special Distinction, the Kings Trophy Competition, comprising two bronze and four silver coloured (two with pin mount), each depicting an archer in light relief, together with a silver medal for Guildford Rose Society, two badges, and three ancient coins
GEORGE PRINCE OF WALES AND CAROLINE PRINCESS OF WALES A pair of Wedgwood jasperware oval portrait plaques, c.1795, each applied in white on a pale blue ground with elaborately hatted head and shoulder profiles, each plaque 13.3cm high, mounted in later frames. (2) The portrait of George is attributed to John Flaxman and was taken from the drawing by Edmund Scott, depicting him in the uniform of Colonel of the 10th Light Dragoons. While this dates from an early period, that of Caroline (also attributed to Flaxman after Edmund Scott) was engraved by T. Barrow in 1795. Depicted in extravagant headwear, it seems probable that this pair of plaques was made to celebrate their wedding on 8th April 1795. Cf. Reilly & Savage, Wedgwood: the Portrait Medallions, pp.83 and 168.
1815 WATERLOO A pearlware jug, dated 1815, printed in black and painted in colours with two figures inscribed 'John and Mary Woodhead', the reverse with an equestrian study captioned 'The Prince of Watterloo [sic], His Grace the Duke of Wellington', beneath the spout with a floral cartouche inscribed 'Josh Haigk Watterloo Man. 16th, 17, 18 Jnue [sic] 1815', some restoration, 14cm. Private Joshua Haigh is recorded at Waterloo in the 51st Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) under Captain Peter Smellie. He may have also been with the regiment during previous campaigning in the Iberian Peninsula and elsewhere but he did not claim the medal for this when it was issued in 1848, suggesting that he had probably died during the intervening years.
A Chinese painting on silk of a parrot, circular. Diameter 26 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This painting appear to have suffered both damp staining and sun light damage. There is some decoration loss and the image itself is perhaps not the best executed. The frame is relatively modern and there again is some damp staining to the silk mount. The paintwork is faded in places particularly around the areas of blossom. The painting appears to be on silk, possibly laid onto another material. There are areas where the original silk has disintegrated and the backing cloth is visible. The outer beige slip is water stained to the left hand side.
A Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase, with swans neck pediment above a pair of glazed doors opening to shelves, the base with slope front above three short and three long drawers with brass drop handles and raised on bracket feet. Height 228 cm, width 127 cm, depth 63 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase requires restoration hence the estimate. The flower head terminal to the swans neck pediment has losses. The pediments themselves are in generally good order and the majority of the fretwork. Greek key moulding is present to the front but missing by 50% on the right-hand side. The doors are not significantly warped but do have a light gap in the middle when closed. All glass panels are in good condition as are the pilasters. The sides of the top are structurally sound. The right-hand side has had some form of coat hooks screwed at some point and there is also a fracture of the timber just behind the bottom door hinge. The hinges are later replacements and screws are protruding through the front edge panels on both sides. The bureau slope front will not quite close properly due to a protruding lock plate. The slope appears flat but does have a loss to the timber above the lock and stress fractures to the bottom right-hand corner. The interior is stained and dirty and whilst a nice shape does have losses to the dividers. The mirror is losing the silvering. Both side panels have splits and losses. The drawers have missing sections of cockbeading and the handles which appear to go in the main through the old handle holes are clearly later. The rear feet are detached and missing. Full restoration is really required.
A small 18th century oak three panelled coffer, the top hinging to an interior with left hand compartment with carved frieze and carved front panels all raised on style feet. Height 59 cm, width 99 cm, depth 47 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The coffer is structurally sound with no significant issues. It is generally a good colour. There are some minor old stress fractures and marks to the panels but no serious splits. The carving to the frieze and front panels is a little bit light and in our opinion probably a later embellishment. The carving is clearly old but probably not original. The lock is a later replacement hence the two keyholes. We have no key. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A pair of Aynsley "Georgian" cobalt gilt coffee cups and saucers, together with a collection of miscellaneous 19th century tea wares, principally blue white and gilt but some handpainted with floral sprays. CONDITION REPORT: This lot comprises a mixture of 19th century and later porcelain and pottery cups and saucers. The pair of Aynsley “Georgian” coffee cups and saucers are overall in good order but do have light usage marks throughout. The lot also includes 3 Hammersley & Co bone china coffee cans and 6 saucers all of which have light usage marks and wear to the gilding. Also within the lot are 31 pieces of 19th century porcelain and pottery which generally are in good to fair condition but are part of several sets and are variously lacking saucers and other matching pieces. There are 6 pieces of gilded and blue decorated porcelain of a similar style to the Aynsley “ Georgian” coffee cans.

Canvas 22 x 27 cm, monogrammed in gilt frame, the reverse of canvas inscribed with artists full name, together with Nantwich 1917. CONDITION REPORT: The painting appears to be in generally very good condition. There do not appear to be any repairs to the canvas and no paint losses to the image itself. The stretcher marks are very slightly visible on the front of the painting but only in a certain light. There does not appear to have been any overpainting. The painting does not require cleaning and there is no significant craquelure or flaking paint. We have no specific provenance with the painting.
