Jacqueline Pietersen (20th century) Goldfinches around a cotton bud plant Signed, oil on canvas 44.5cm by 34cm *Artists' Resale Rights apply to this lot CONDITION REPORT: It is apparent that the birds depicted in this work are infact Goldfinches. In overall good, sound and original condition. Covered in a thin layer of surface dirt with the odd dark coloured superficial scuff to the surface. A further light and superficial scratch to top right hand corner approx 3 cms in length. Minor rubbing to edges. Painted relatively thinly in places and the canvas is showing through ( mostly contained to the background) Re-touches along top edge to conceal pin holes and a further couple of exposed pin holes lower left hand corner.

Re-lined, cleaned and re varnished. Possible strengthening to the signature. Re-touching to top right hand side edge and top right hand side corner, in addition to sporadic darker tones under the arches, railings and figure group and isolated parts of the masonry with a few further retouching dashes in the lower right hand corner. The paint is a little thin and flat in places. Light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Very isolated patches of fine cracquelure.

Light rubbing to some of the outer edges and a small amount of transferred gilt paint along top edge. Fine to medium sized cracquelure across surface, essentially stable (one very tiny area of loss to the left of the terracotta bowl) Covered in a thin layer of dirt and relatively high gloss varnish. The canvas has slightly slipped in the frame along the top edge.
