London Transport bus stop enamel E-PLATE for route 100 'Tourist Bus' in white lettering on a red background. This route ran during various summers in the 1970s, operated on LT's behalf by Obsolete Fleet and using vintage buses which are today part of the London Bus Museum collection. In good ex-use condition with a couple of light surface scratches. [1]
Pair of original 1951 London Transport POSTERS 'Men Conductors Wanted' & 'Women Conductors Wanted' featuring an illustration of a speeding double-deck bus with a conductor hanging on to the platform pole. By an unknown artist. These were issued as the staff shortages were starting to bite and it had been accepted that women conductors were now a permanent feature. Posters measure 20" x 30" (76cm x 51cm) and have light creases and edge scuffs. [2]
Original 1942 WW2 London Transport POSTER 'In the Blackout.....make sure it is the platform side' by Bruce Angrave (1914-1983) who designed posters for LT 1942-64 as well as for British Railways and its predecessor railway companies. Measures 19.5" x 24.5" (50cm x 61cm) and one of a series of five WW2 LT blackout safety posters. It has been linen backed and, apart from some light creasing in places, is in very good condition. [1]
Original 1935 London Transport double-crown POSTER 'Garage Staff - to take care is part of your job....' by Edward E Hunt who designed a number of safety posters for LT from 1934-38. Features a lovely illustration of red (STL722) and green STL-type buses. One of only 150 printed and this one not in the LT Museum collection. Mounted on linen and in very good condition with a few small, light creases and a couple of small age spots only. [1]
1921 'Inner Area MAP of the Electric Railways of London', a pocket-sized card issue designed by MacDonald Gill using his own personalised style of calligraphy for the station names and key box text. Light wear to the covers but a firm and crisp example in good condition. [1] See lot 331 for the paper, full-sized version of this map.
Metropolitan Electric Tramways, Middlesex and Hertfordshire Light Railways small, pocket-sized MAP OF ROUTES and Particulars of Services. Undated but c1910. Carries a sticker on the cover that lines shown in dotted blue are now open. One fold has parted for half its length but this copy is otherwise very reasonable. An exceptionally scarce issue. [1]
London Transport Country Bus Chief Inspector's CAP BADGE issued c1960 to the most senior inspectors who were in charge of garages and bus stations. This is a slightly larger-than-normal badge, with a laurel wreath inside the circle and the same design as those issued concurrently to senior station masters on the Underground. Made of gold-plated base metal, this is a very scarce badge. Very good condition with light wear only. [1]
London Transport Central Buses OFFICIAL'S PLATE from the first LT issue in the 1930s with serial number 330. Made of nickel-silver with blue enamel inlays, these plates were issued to senior officials who might often be in plain clothes and the design was based on the former LGOC version. Similar plates have continued to be issued until recent times. The plate is in good condition with light wear. [1]
