1959 Jaguar MKI 3.4 M/OD Ex George FormbyMake: JaguarModel: MKIYear: 1959Mileage: 71506VIN: S976920DNConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GF2Transmission: manualThis late Jaguar MkI has quite a story attached to it. Its first owner was a certain George Formby, the much-loved entertainer of the 1930s and 1940s most famous for his ukulele playing. He bought the Mist Grey with red leather upholstery 3.4-litre car from Woodhead's Garage in Blackpool during 1959, and transferred his personalised plate, GF2, onto it. Not long afterwards, on August Bank Holiday 1959, George and wife Beryl were driving along the A47 just past King's Lynn, heading for Great Yarmouth where George was appearing at the Windmill Theatre. At East Winch, an Austin A30 turned right while the Jaguar was overtaking, and the two cars collided. The Formbys were taken to hospital in King's Lynn suffering from shock. At the subsequent court case, the A30 driver was found guilty of careless driving, with George paying tribute to the Jaguar's stopping abilities, thanks to it having disc brakes on all four wheels. "I hadn't an earthly chance of avoiding him... it's lucky I have a car with terrific braking power," he said of the Jaguar while giving evidence. However, despite this accolade, it was the end of George's ownership of the MkI. He traded the damaged car in for a new Sherwood Green Jaguar MkIX from Mann Egerton in Norwich. An allowance of £1425 was given for the damaged MkI, which was then repaired and sold on. The Jaguar was subsequently re-registered but taken off the road during 1968. However, after a few decades, it was rescued and reunited with its 'GF 2' numberplate in 2002. Its restoration ran to 2500 hours over a period of six months. The current mileage is shown as 71,506 miles. The car comes with several items of Formby memorabilia including a biography which looks at the East Winch incident in considerable detail, a DVD about George Formby's Norfolk, a pair of sunglasses worn by George in 1949, and George's race card from the Manchester Races Whitsuntide Meeting in May 1958, plus other period items such as a box of Gee's Linctus Pastilles, Ronson lighter accessories, a purse of old coins, and a Jack Powles and Company brochure for Norfolk holiday boat hire. Documents relating to the Jaguar include an owner's handbook for the similar Mk2, as well as a workshop manual for the MkI. Although an older restoration, the Jaguar generally in very good order and is the most sought-after 3.4-litre manual with overdrive variant. The interior is especially nice, with just light patina to the red leather seats and walnut veneer in very fine order throughout. The car will require some attention to the engine to get it running, however. The 'GF 2' numberplate is non-transferable and thus will need to stay with the vehicle.
1959 VW Renegade 1300 Beach BuggyMake: Volkswagen Model: Renegade Beach BuggyYear: 1959Mileage: 0VIN: 2538650Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: XUW75Transmission: manualThis Renegade Beach Buggy has a 1959 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 Convertible as its basis, and is both tax- and MoT-exempt. It's one of only 320 Renegade buggies, and was built 42 years ago. The vendor tells us that a brake overhaul has recently been carried out, and a new exhaust and rear light have been fitted, along with the seats re-upholstered. The vehicle was resprayed three years ago. Some light recommissioning is required to 'make the buggy 100 per cent' according to the vendor. The paperwork is limited to the current and one previous V5C. Seven former registered keepers are recorded. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 22ND JANUARY BY ACA OF THIS CAR.

1966 Mercedes W111 250 SE Auto CoupeMake: Mercedes Model: 250 SE CoupeYear: 1969Mileage: 31203VIN: 11102122086735Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GFX178DTransmission: automatic This 1966 Mercedes 250 SE Coupe has been fitted with the 2.8-litre straight-six engine from a 280 SE of the same era. It is finished in metallic blue with contrasting fawn leather, with its odometer showing 31,203 miles. Although built in 1966, the car was only registered in the UK in May 1969 according to the V5C. Nevertheless, it's an original right-hand drive example, with four-speed automatic transmission. According to information from the vendor - who recently won the car in a competition - the M130 2.8-litre engine was fitted in 2020, after the failure of the original motor. Prior to the vendor, the previous owner had the car for two years and covered around 2000 miles, before selling the car due to ill health. He had purchased the car from the person responsible for its upkeep over a 32-year period. Among its reported previous owners - 10 former keepers are registered on the V5C - are, reputedly, comedian and actor David Walliams and the Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James. From a search online, it seems that Walliams sold it in 2005. The car is overall in very good condition. There is some minor pitting to the chrome, a small scratch to the front left light housing and front end, a small dent in the front bumper and a previously repaired chip to the roof. The 14in Baroque alloy wheels are all in excellent order, with comparatively fresh tyres, although they're not matching. Inside, the fawn leather interior is believed to be original and so show some signs of age; there's a small tear to the passenger seat and some slight sagging to the driver's seat, although the carpets appear in very good order. The wood shows some aging - that on the top of the dash often deteriorates on these cars due to sun magnified by the glass through the windscreen - but is still pretty good. A period radio is fitted. The windscreen wipers apparently require servicing and the dimmer and full-beam switches for the lights are functional but reversed. The most recent service was at 31,100 miles by Henrietta Mews Garage in Bath. The car is now exempt from MoT testing due to its age, but at its last test in April 2018 (at 29,318) it passed with no advisories. The paperwork file includes the current V5C as well as a few past ones. There are also MoT certificates from 2018, 2017, 2015, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2000 and 1999 plus assorted 21st century bills. 1997 TVR Chimaera 4.0Make: TVRModel: Chimaera Year: 1997Mileage: 79999VIN: SDLDCC4P7VC011389Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: P550SBJTransmission: ManualThe potent TVR Chimaera (its name was derived from a monster found in Greek mythology) was built by the Blackpool sports car manufacturer between 1992 and 2003. It shared a lot of its chassis and running gear with the Griffith, as well as its Rover V8 engines, but was pitched as the long distance tourer of the range, so was longer, more spacious inside, and had somewhat softer suspension. This 3952cc V8-engined example was registered in April 1997 and, since then, has covered an indicated 79,999 miles. Finished in green with grey leather interior, it's in very presentable order, although some stonechipping to the nose is apparent, and there are some areas on the bonnet and front wings where the paint is wearing a little thin. Some light scratches are also apparent across the body.

1930 AJS Two Seater TourerMake: AJSModel: Two seater TourerYear: 1930Mileage: 4527VIN: A213Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: OG6105Transmission: ManualAlthough best-known as a maker of motorcycles, A J Stevens and Co (AJS) also made wireless sets, commercial vehicles and cars at its Wolverhampton factories. Its first foray into automobiles was as the supplier of coachwork (via its Hayward Motor Bodies subsidiary) for the locally-produced Clyno Nine light car. However, when Clyno collapsed in early 1929, AJS decided to introduce its own vehicle instead. The AJS Nine was similar to the old Clyno, and used a 1018cc sidevalve Coventry Climax engine of 24bhp, mated to a three-speed gearbox. Sales of the car began in August 1930. However, despite many admirable qualities - or possibly because of them - the AJS Nine proved too expensive, and production ended after around 1000 cars when AJS went into liquidation in October 1931. A further 300 were made by Willys-Overland-Crossley however.
1973 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Manual SIIMake: Jaguar Model: XJ6Year: 1973Mileage: 46011VIN: 2N3417DNConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: POK227MTransmission: manualThis desirable short wheel base 4.2 XJ6, fitted with overdrive, is finished in the original period Greensand. It has covered only 120 miles during the vendor's five year ownership and would benefit from some light recommissioning. The vendor advises that he has garage stored the car for the last five years with the very occasional trip out in dry weather. The car is described as solid. Fitted with a later sunroof and the headlining requires attention. It appears to have done little mileage over many years. Comes with the original passport containing fifteen stamps between 1973 and 2002, recent MoTs, current and older V5s, handbook and maintenance chart. The mileage is recorded at 46,011.
1991 Lotus Elan SE Turbo (M100)Make: Lotus Model: Elan SE TurboYear: 1991Mileage: 74550VIN: SCC100ZT1MHD18168Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: J3NEBTransmission: manual1,588cc. Purchased by the vendor from ACA in 2019, the car has since been subject to a complete overhaul of the braking system including calipers, discs, pads and lines, pop-up light motors, replaced thermostat and battery. The wheels benefit from balancing and refurbishment. Although this Lotus has had little use in the last two years, it is described as running well. Fitted with battery isolator and immobiliser. The history folder contains the original service handbook with fifteen stamps from 1992 at 6,655 miles to 2009 at 68,414 miles, many MoTs dating from 1996, a large file of receipts from 1998 to the present, some maintenance schedules, spare key and wallet. Twelve registered owners. 74,550 warranted miles. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 17TH JANUARY BY ACA OF THIS CAR.
1990 Volvo 740 GL - Idris Elba's 'Luther' carMake: Volvo Model: 740 GLYear: 1990Mileage: 0VIN: YV1744273L1490995Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: H654WKHTransmission: manualThe critically-acclaimed BBC psychological crime drama Luther, first broadcast in 2010, helped turn Idris Elba into an internationally famous star for his portrayal of DCI John Luther. One of Luther's trademarks was his love of old Volvos; in the first series, he drove a 240, and returned to that model for the fifth series. However, the big Swedish bruiser that got the most on-screen time with Idris was the pale metallic blue 1990 740 GL he drove in series two, three and four. H654 WKH is the Luther Volvo, registered in August 1990. It's in the same condition as when it appeared on TV, including missing bits of body trim and wheeltrims, plus a front wing in grey primer. Ordinarily, these might be regarded as negative points, but in the case of this 740 GL, they provide extra authenticity; this is the car as DCI Luther owned and drove it in the series. Inside, the car still has its prop two-way communications radio fitted, as well as what we believe is a blue light atop the dashboard. The Volvo can be seen starring alongside Idris Elba in these Luther YouTube segments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GcqRcYPZsI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld6C1JyiVDw Five former registered keepers are recorded for this 1986cc Volvo, which comes with its V5C (as well as a copy of some previous ones) and a current MoT certificate valid until January 2023. There are also test certificates dating from 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, with the ones from 2010 onwards showing very few miles covered year-to-year over that period. In 2010, the recorded mileage was 145,635 miles, it's now 145,921. There's also the original document folder with owner's manual, audio equipment instructions (with radio code), service manual and even a Volvo Lifetime Care cassette. The service book is stamped up to 102,698 miles (November 1998). Paperwork very specific to this particular car is a sheaf of BBC production call sheets and parking permits, as well as a cardboard cut-out of Idris Elba - for that extra touch of realism.
1968 Austin 6 CWT Pick-up Make: AustinModel: 6 CWT Pick-upYear: 1968Mileage: 11955VIN: AAUC243117Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: RVP189GTransmission: ManualVan and pick-up versions of the Morris Minor were built from 1953 onwards, but following the end of Austin A35 commercial vehicle production in 1968, Austin-badged variants of the Minor light commercial were introduced, in 6cwt and 8cwt form. These featured Austin badging and the corporate Austin 'crinkle-cut' radiator grille but were otherwise identical to the standard Minor commercials. This green 6cwt pick-up example was completed in registered in 1968 and has 11 former registered keepers recorded by its V5C. It has been in the ownership of the vendor for the last decade. The odometer indicates 11,955 miles (which we assume is 111,955 miles), but this is not warranted. The history folder includes MoT certificates from 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 plus the current V5C.
