The inner lid strap with slots for pens, released by a catch, contains the original writing palette, a leather bound blotter and a criss-crossed leather visiting card tidy. Height 24cm, Width 38cm Depth 18cm. *Probably intended for an important politician, this despatch box is in near fine, unused, unfaded condition.

Everyone admired and liked your husband so very much, and it was always such a pleasure to come into the shop and talk to him ...', two pages on letterhead printed in red, light central fold, 8voQty: (1)NOTESProvenance: Joy Clark, thence by descent. Joy Clark (born 1937) grew up in Beaconsfield with her parents Isabella and Cecil Clark. The Clarks ran an ironmongers shop in the town and Enid Blyton was a regular customer. For many years whenever one of her books was published, Blyton would kindly sign and give a book to Joy, who was a small child at the time. Enid was apparently very familiar with and fond of the family, which we believe is why she sent this hand-written condolence letter, using her married name, on the death of Cecil in 1947. Enid Blyton married Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters, her second husband, in 1943.
