A Georgian Officer's commission dated 1st December 1808 appointing John Richardson to an ensign in the 40th or the 2nd Somersetshire Regiment of foot signed top left George R in a contorted hand by King George III - he was suffering from his madness at this time - sealed and countersigned by Lord Liverpool, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies who became Prime Minister in 1812 on the assassination of Spencer Perceval. Parchment measuring 35.5 cm x 23.5 cm - John Richardson served as subaltern in the 40th Regt. in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, fighting at the battles of Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthez, Toulouse and Waterloo. He became Captain in the 40th in 1831, he exchanged to the 83rd (County of Dublin) Regiment in 1833 with which he served in Canada and he retired in 1840 Condition report: Good with light fading and fully legible on both sides

A Hardy 2¾" diameter plate wind fishing reel, bearing oval Hardy logo and rod in hand trademark CONDITION REPORTS Is in used condition with some general light wear throughout, some patination, some surface scratching, at some point someone has carved initials on the outer edge of the back plate which are faintly visible, shows rubbing conducive with age, handle has a small 10 mm split to one side, seems to run smoothly.

A Coxon Aerial 3" diameter four spoke centre pin fishing reel CONDITION REPORTS In used condition and shows signs of general wear, wooden face has some slight splitting to one edge conducive with age but does not go all the way through - just a surface split from general drying out, reel has some light scratching, seems to turn smoothlyl, handles show general signs of wear particularly to the top and both have some small nibbles around screws, but otherwise generally appears in good sound condition.

A Hardy "Silex Major" 3¾" diameter extra wide salmon spinning reel, together with damaged maker's box CONDITION REPORTS Has some light wear and some surface scratches conducive with general use, back has several pin head size pitted holes to outer edge (please see photos), some general rubbing to wording throughout but still very legible, turns smoothly, some discolouration to the fitments conducive with age and use. Box in used condition with rubbing to the wording throughout but still recognisable, top section missing one side (please see photo), has clearly at some stage had "886" written to the top of the box, labels are worn with parts missing (please see photos), but appears fairly well cared for.

A Hardy "Golden Prince" #7/8 trout fly reel, in maker's pouch and box CONDITION REPORTS Appears to have been extremely well looked after, with some very minor wear, appears to turn easily, generally appears in good overall sound condition, pouch in similar condition but with some light general wear, box has knocks and wear to corners and edges and is in used - but still very useable - condition.

A Hardy "Super Silex Multiplier" 3½" diameter multiplying spinning reel CONDITION REPORTS Is in used condition with some light surface scratching and rubbing throughout conducive with general use and age, is slight "sticky" to turn but does turn with a little pressure, shows some slight discolouration conducive with age, but appears sound.

A pale brown full length mink coat, bearing label inside inscribed "Designed by Despina Fur New York Athens Hong Kong", together with an astrakhan black full length coat CONDITION REPORTS Mink coat has some light wear, but overall appears to be in good condition, brown felt-like base onto which the strips of pelt are stitched are visible when the coat is folded or part the strips with your fingers and they appear generally to be firmly attached and as far as we are able to determine appears to be the form of manufacture rather than a fault. Black coat has wear and scuffs, some tattiness and baldness to edges, and quite a lot of rubbed areas, and some bald patches which have been subject to wear particularly to collar, elbows, etc.

Stewart print has fading and some wear. Claire Burton print has some undulations to paper, and some general wear and dirt, frame has various bumps and chips.

Magnificent catalogue of antique sculpture and gems, including views of the Parthenon and other Greek temples, the Pyramids and Haghia Sophia in Constantinople. Sir Richard Worsley (1751-1805) was a politician and art collector who travelled widely in Greece and Asia Minor in 1785-87 and was later British Resident at Venice 1794-97. He was the first British traveller to transport works of art from Greece back to England, where he displayed his collection of antiquities at his house Appuldurcombe in the Isle of Wight. The cost of his travels, purchases and production of this work is reputed to have totalled approximately £27,000, the publication alone (excluding binding) amounting to almost £3000.
