A Set of Three Silver Plate Two-Light Wall-Sconces, Apparently Unmarked, 20th Century, each in the William III or Queen Anne style, shaped oval and with two winged putto at the top flanking a flaming vase, the lower body with flower and foliage swags suspending from eagle masks, the two arms each terminate in spool-shaped socket with gadrooned wax-pans, 32cm high (3) These sconces are copies of examples by John Fawdrey which are hallmarked for London, 1702. So popular was their design that they were copied variously, including a pair now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. This pair is hallmarked for 1703 but are more likely to have been made in the 19th century. A set of four, by Wakely and Wheeler 1908 and 1909, were offered for sale Sotheby's, 7 June 2007, lot 161.
