*Australia - 1893. Team autographs of all fifteen players, on letterhead of Flying House Hotel, Nottingham, dated 28th June 1893, with signatures of A.C. Bannerman, A.H. Jarvis, John Lyons, W.F. Giffen, R.W. McLeod, S.E. Gregory, J. McBlackham, A. Coningham, G.H.S. Trott, C.T.B. Turner, H. Graham, William Bruce, Hugh Trumble, Victor Cohen and Geo. Giffen, letterhead printed top leaf of quarto leaf which is split neatly in two along centrefold with names falling either side into two columns, remains of old album hinges to verso with minor light browning showing through at extremities, overall approx. 20.5 x 25.5 cm, together with a modern black and white photo of the team (from an original photograph by the London Stereographic & Photographic Company, Ltd, now in the possession of Lord's). The Eighth Australian Cricketing Team played its fifteenth game of their 1893 tour against Arthur Shrewsbury's England Eleven, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on 26th to 28th June 1893. England scored 416 in their first innings and then, aided by some heavy rainfall, proceeded to bowl Australia out for 120 and 143 and win by an innings and 153 runs. Top Australian batsman on this occasion was S.E. Gregory with 21 and 51, while top bowler was Hugh Trumble, who took 3 for 83. The Ashes' 15th Series began the following month with England winning the three-match Series 1-0. (2)
