William Woodhouse (1857-1939)A covey of PartridgeSigned, mixed media, 34.5cm by 50cmCondition report: In an overall good state of preservation, some light time staining to the sheet which is more apparent within the sky and less worked areas. Edmund John Niemann (1813-1876)RichmondSigned and dated 1861, oil on canvas, 37cm by 91cmRichard Green, London, 10.11.1978Private Collection, UKCondition report: In restored condition relined, cleaned, and revarnished retains reasonable original surface. There is little to abundantly to determine under a UV light in respect of retouching or restoration. It is likely that outer edges and corners have been infilled and that some of the darker shadows of the stones within the river, lower centre have possibly been strengthened. It does not preclude the possibility of other unidentifiable retouching, slight surface dirt and discoloured varnish. In an overall very good condition.
Herbert Royle (1870-1958)Timber cutting and hauling in a winter landscapeSigned, oil on canvas, 49.5cm by 59.5cmArtist's Resale Rights/Droit de Suite may apply to this lot, please refer to our Terms of BusinessCondition report: In an overall good and original state of preservation. Covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. There was the odd white coloured chalky scuff to surface within the upper part of the canvas but this is easily removable. Odd minor rubbing/abrasion to edges. Not examined with a UV light.
William Mellor (1851-1931)"On the Wharfe, Bolton woods""Bolton Abbey, on the Wharfe"Signed, oil on canvas 29cm by 44cm (2)Condition report: Example with angler to right of river in fully restored condition fairly stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. The surface and impasto have been somewhat flattened by the restoration process. Evidence of some general retouching throughout the sky between the foliage. Possible damage with repair and associated retouching effectively horizontal band just above centre and approximately 8 to 10 cm in length. Odd less significant retouch/strengthening to stones within the river, left-hand side corner and other more minor elements of the foreground. Example with angler centre-left (Bolton Abbey in the Wharfe) relatively stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. Surface and impasto somewhat flattened from the restoration process. More sporadic retouching to elements of the sky, the reflection of Bolton Abbey in the water, upper lefthand corner and some of the stones in the foreground in general. The paint is slightly thin in areas which applies to both. The William Mellor signature is abraded as a likely result of the cleaning and restoration process. There is a suggestion of another signature? possibly Everett? The second indistinct word does not especially resemble Mellor Neither signature shows evidence of interference under a UV light necessarily, an image can be supplied but there are certainly traces of two signatures or another inscription evident on the work. For further information please contact the department.

Some surface dirt and discolored varnish now in evidence. Some slight flattening to the surface and thinning of paint as a result of the restoration process. Small linear area of paint loss and rubbing within the lower right-hand corner. Little to determine by way of overpainting or restoration under a UV light, but does not preclude the possibility of some subtle intervention, otherwise in a broadly good state of presentation.

Sproadic re-touches to edges and one or two further minor re-touches to sky and elsewhere. Otherwise in a stable and good state to presentation.
