Two bottles of Giuseppe Quintarelli-Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, vintage 1983. Category: red wine. Valpolicella D.O.C.. Negrar, Veneto(Italy). Level: B/C. 750 ml. For more than sixty years at the head of the Quintarelli family winery, Giusseppe managed to turn his eleven hectares of meager production in the hills of Verona into something legendary. Today he is succeeded, with the same dedication and affection, by his wife Franca, his daughter Fiorenza and his son-in-law Giampaolo. Quintarelli has acquired that rare status of transcendence that very few wines in the world achieve. In Quintarelli's case, it is due not only to an exceptional terroir but to a tradition, to a family environment, to a way of doing things and above all, to the persistence behind it all.Azienda Agricola Quintarelli is located in Negrar, in Veneto, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico appellation that extends from the northern suburbs of Verona to the foothills of the Dolomites. It is a contradictory region because in the 1950s, before Giuseppe took over the management of Quintarelli, Valpolicella was rather known for fresh, light reds that were produced in large quantities and although pleasant, never became memorable. It was then that Quintarelli and other now legendary producers, such as Dal Forno and Zenato, decided to prove that they were capable of producing more substantial wines such as Amarone. Quintarelli's most emblematic wine is Amarone Classico, a wine made from the apassimento or partial raisining of local grapes (corvina, rondinella and corvinone) for several months.
