It was the hippest record shop in London. (John had previously employed Elton John as his counter assistant!). Seymour Stein was a regular customer when in town and I believe he and John had a ‘thing’ for a while. Anyway when One Stop was sold by Island Records to the Harlequin chain, John left England to take top a position at Seymour’s new record label in New York. It was called Sire. About two months later I received an album in the post. It was this - a very advanced copy of their new release. I think this was the first copy in Europe, even John Peel didn’t have one, he just had a cassette. This is where punk rock began. This is a truly historic disc. I never though I’d ever part with this but, equally, what’s the point of keeping it in a cupboard? "
