A 17th Century oak and yew wood geometric chest of drawers, circa 1700 The rectangular single plank oak top incised with initials with four long graduated moulded and panelled drawers, the slender top drawer above three larger drawers one with an octagonal moulded inset panel, geometric panelled sides raised upon a shaped plinth and bracket feet. 88x108x47cms (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: The rectangular one piece top interest in the insized with the name T Watson, June 1820, York, old inscription, other initials over the top, including large initials RN, repair to front corner, part which is replacement measures 18x3cms, the top drawer from the interior appears that the handles have been replaced, some infill on the centre of the front drawer on the interior measures approx. 5.5x6cmsm 2nd drawer down a rectangular infill to the inside of the 2nd drawer on the left and right hand side possible indicating handles have been replaced, the centre of the drawer infilled piece of timber measuring approx. 4x10cms, 3rd drawer down similar inset rectangular pieces of light coloured timber, the same for the 3rd long drawer at the bottom each may indicate that there would have been housing for lock plates and there are recesses on the inside of each frame where the drawer closes, at the back panel to horizontal panels each side has geometric mouldings, the overall size of the chest may possibly have been reduced now on shaped bracket supports with wavy front apron.
