A WWI MEMORIAL DEATH PLAQUE, named to William Paddock, together with its card envelope and the original postal packet, a British War medal correctly named to 322809 Spr (Sapper) W. Paddock. RE (Royal Engineers), together with paperwork, William Paddock enlisted in Wolverhampton in November 1915 and served with the 96th Light Railway operating coy, on 30th December, 1917 he was aboard the HMS Aragon in the Med, when they were sunk by a German U-Boat, with the loss of 610 lives, he is buried in the Hadra CWGC Cemetery in Alexandria Egypt, also a small number of photographs, dealing with the sinking (Scuttling) of the German Battleship 'Graf Spee' in the river plate, information from the vendor suggests that it was another family member who served in the Royal Navy, aboard HMS Newcastle, who either took the photographs or who obtained them locally at the time

Unusual 19th Century lady's workbox of maritime interest, being overall decorated with inlaid studies of British and other sailing and steam vessels. Particularly featuring the Thames Estuary light ship 'Nore', steam paddle wheeler 'Punch' and a Tea Clipper similar to the Cutty Sark. Lift out tray with inlaid red and white ensigns and various compartments. 33 x 23 x 14cm approx. CONDITION REPORT: Some losses to the veneers in places, although overall intact and fairy fresh. Decorative panels have some horizontal splits but are basically good.

(John Thompson Company Limited was a major engineering business based in Wolverhampton, originally founded in the early 19th Century and particularly known for the manufacture of boilers, becoming involved in the nuclear industry in the 1950s and finally going out of business in the 1970s.
