Large archaic style Chinese carved jade axe suspended with a custom stand. The jade is has a mottled quality with is consistent with some classical jades. The carving and polish also shows signs of being hand done, however the exaggerated proportions and form suggest a Qing or later date of manufacture. Chinese pale white or white jade carved knife pendant. A rare and very well carved blade with a dragon form rarely seen in any color of jade. With a wire through the hole with a Ming's label attached. One late 18th century very fine huanghuali Chinese lamp hanger chair with basket seat. The chair is of the classic form, the back made of two side supports that become legs and a single undecorated slat that terminates at the top into the shaped neck support. The basket weave seat is not original, likely a 19th century replacement. The legs are supported by double stretchers.Provenance: The collection of Bruce Dayton and Ruth Stricker Dayton - Selections from The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota.Height: 44 in x width: 19 1/4 in x depth: 16 1/2 in.Condition: The chair is structurally sound and stable. The backsplat is slightly loose in its joints. The lower stretcher bar along the back left leg is slightly loose. Along the underside of the seat there are three splits to the underside of the base. There is one break to the frame of the seat along the underside. There is light general wear throughout consistent with age and use.

One mid-19th century Chinese rosewood huali square table with finely crafted top with large slabs of rosewood and precisely rounded corner edges. The top supported by a pierced set of stretchers made from well rounded slats. The legs of cylinder form and dropping straight to the floor with no embellishments or decoration of any kind. Underside shows signs of light restoration and refinishing. A carved inscription along one leg notes its location in an individual's home or parlor.Provenance: The collection of Bruce Dayton and Ruth Stricker Dayton - Selections from The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota.Height: 34 in x width: 37 in x depth: 36 3/4 in.Condition: The table is in generally good condition. Pair of massive 18th-century Chinese celadon fish bowls with incised and relief decoration. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with a profusion of waves, clouds, flames and shi shi or foo dogs playing over a rolling sea of waves. The top and bottom are framed by a border of repeating ruyi heads. The central ground is carved down to the waves leaving the clouds and dogs in high relief.Provenance: The collection of Bruce Dayton and Ruth Stricker Dayton - Selections from The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota.Each, including base, height: 23 1/2 in x diameter: 29 1/2 in.Condition: One bowl has a network of two large cracks through the bottom and is surrounded by a circular crack that runs the circumference of the bottom. These cracks have been repaired and overspray is visible under close inspection and under UV light. A large X-shaped crack is visible along the interior along the side of the bowl; the crack is noticeable under close inspection along the exterior of the bowl. There are mineral deposits and tidelines along the interior of the vessel. Mineral deposits gathered in the cracks of the bowl. Small firing flaws throughout the interior. There are a few small chips along the exterior of the bowl. Overspray/repairs visible along the footrim consistent with the circular crack visible along the interior. Wear to the underside consistent with age and use. There is a network of small white accretions to the exterior of the bowl that can be removed with a fingernail. Some lighter accretions throughout. Heavy wear to the wooden stand.To the other bowl there is a circular firing flaw along the interior. Mineral deposits gathered along the interior of the bowl in this firing flaw. Mineral deposits and tidelines visible along the interior of the bowl. There are small firing flaws throughout the interior. There is wear throughout including a few small chips to the exterior of the bowl. Wear to the footrim consistent with age and use. There is a network of small white accretions to the exterior of the bowl that can be removed with a fingernail. Some lighter accretions throughout including residual tape affixed to the exterior. There is a slightly dark stain to the pale green background in one area. Including one jardiniere, two serving platters, two serving bowls, one small plate, five saucers, four teapots, one vase, one candlestick, one gravy boat, one mug, two round pots, one small saucers, five teacups, three creamers, one bowl, one tazza, and one tankard.Height ranges from 3/4 in to 8 1/4 in; width ranges from 2 3/4 in to 10 1/4 in; depth ranges from 3 in to 9 1/2 in.Condition: There is wear, losses to the gilding and painted decoration, and stickers affixed to the undersides of all pieces. General wear includes light scratches, wear to the footrims, and light accretions. Specific issues include: The large round plate with a small chip along the rim. The two-handled bowl has repairs to the handles. Two cups with holes drilled in the bottoms; mineral deposits along the interior. The candlestick with overspray and a small chip to the upper rim. Repairs to all three feet of the small tripod creamer. Crack and firing flaw along the rim of one of the small footed creamers. There is a repaired crack and overspray visible along the bottom of the other small footed creamer. Several small chips along the edge of the scalloped saucer. Marks have been scratched out from the underside of two of the hexagonal saucers. The other hexagonal saucer has two pieces that have been broken off and repaired; cracks visible and overspray. One of the small round saucers with a chip along the footrim. One of the small round saucers with several small fleabite chips along the top rim. Several repairs along the upper rim of the vase; visible under a direct light and under UV light. Discolored repair and crack to the rim of one of the handled mugs; the crack extends vertically from the chip to the bottom of the mug. There is a large crack and overspray to the larger handled mug; visible under a direct light and under UV light. There is a large crack to the bottom of the teapot with a woven handle. Possible repairs to the rim of the jardiniere.

Group of three Chinese PRC porcelain food containers decorated with famille rose enamels. Lein, former director of the Minnesota Museum of American Art.Malcolm Emil Lein (1913-2003) was the director of the Minnesota Museum of American Art during its early and formative years. During his 30-year tenure, he fought to procure the museum funding, grow its permanent collection, and establish it as St. Paul's premiere gallery. Along with his wife Miriam, who worked at the Walker Art Center, he was a fixture in the Twin Cities artistic community throughout his life.Head, without stand; Height: 22 in x width: 7 in x depth: 10 in.Condition: There are natural lines throughout. Some light scratches and light wear throughout the surface. Roughness to the neck. There are three small chips: one along the ear, one along the forehead, and one along the back of the head. There is a 2 inch long repair to right side of the headdress. There is a metal pole inserted into the bottom of the head so that it can be displayed. Wear to the wooden display plinth. There are scratches and a large gouge where the head rests against the wood; only noticeable when the head is pivoted or removed. Two of the side panels of the plinth are coming disattached.

One Chinese scholar's rock or Lingbi stone on a rosewood and basalt stone stand, 19th century. In a dark grey color with a craggy form and a central large aperture. The vertical stone is striated on a diagonal in a manner reminiscent of clouds. The stone tapers smaller as it reaches the bottom and connects with the base. The form is a masterpiece of using the limits of your medium, which is this case was an oddly formed jade pebble. This piece bears many of the hallmarks of mid-18th century jade carvings.
