A U.S. MODEL 1860 LIGHT CAVALRY SWORD, dated '1864', with 35in. slightly curved single-edged fullered blade stamped with date and makers details of 'W. Chelmsford' at the forte, brass half-basket hilt of three bars, and leather-covered grip (wire binding missing), in steel scabbard with two rings for suspension.

A RARE CASED 18-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN by John Bass, London, circa 1791-4, with 33 3/4in. rebrowned twist barrels signed in gold towards the breech, each barrel with gold breech-line and gold-lined touch-hole, silver fore-sight, grooved tang engraved with foliage inhabited by a bird, signed flat bevelled locks each with stepped tail, gold-lined semi-rainproof pan and roller, one pan-cover also gold-lined, the top-jaws (one jaw and jaw-screw replaced) each with a collar giving a longer bearing for the jaw-screw, walnut half-stock originally fitted with a cheek-pad, chequered grip, engraved iron mounts including signed trigger-guard decorated with a dog and a bird and with large pineapple finial, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later brass-mounted ramrod with worm, London proof marks, in fitted mahogany case, probably original, lined in green baize and with some accessories including shot charger, the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle (some light pitting to barrels, some wear and discolouration to iron parts). Footnote: The cocks are attached to the tumblers by a nut with an additional screw passing through the tumbler from the inside and screwing into the base of the cock, a method peculiar to Bass.

A RARE BISSELL 1865 PATENT INTERNAL STRIKER ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN BY R.S. GARDEN, serial no. 1114, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'R.S. Garden 29 Piccadilly London', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl in both, action incorporating Bissell internal striker and cartridge extracting patent no. 1461 of 1865, with a lever attached to the rear lump activating the extractor upon opening, rotary underlever, non-rebounding back action locks with hammers of hare's-ear form, the internal strikers set in removeable striker discs, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, bright finish overall, 14in. well-figured stock including horn butt-plate, fore-end with cross-pin release and some light repairs, weight 7lb.

The following two Lots were the property of Captain Justin Pargiter M.C., I.A. Both guns were carried by him during and after the Great War in India and on the North West Frontier where he served as a Squadron Commander in the 27th Light Cavalry. His citation for the Military Cross states: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 21st May, 1921, near Idak. When his troop was fired into at close range his horse was shot under him, but he immediately got another horse and showed great coolness and skill under heavy fire. He subsequently lead two dismounted attacks against superior numbers, and his extreme coolness and courageous example under heavy fire was of great value in encouraging his men, who were at one time largely outnumbered". **WEBLEY .455 'MARK VI' SIX-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION SERVICE REVOLVER, serial no. 274432. A VIRTUALLY UNUSED W.W.GREENER 'LIGHT HARPOON GUN', serial no. 582, full cased outfit consisting of Geener 'GP' martini-action harpoon gun with 20in. take-down barrel (fires .38 special blank (14.5GRs No.5 Cordite)), hard chrome finish, 14 1/2in. stock including buttplate, three 16oz. stainless steel harpoons with arrowhead tips and two spreading barbs, two line release frames (with lines), two cleaning rods, three shooting lines, one tin container for two boxes 50 Greener harpoon gun blanks (boxes present, no blanks) cleaning equipment and original tin of oil, with extra harpoon, in its wood case. The gun was completed in 1963 and was purchased by the Vendor from new to assess the market for shark hunting off the shores of the Cape in South Africa (known as the home of the Great White). Having arranged a boat and a bevy of potential clients to demonstrate the gun to, the disappointment of a complete no show on the shark front was considerable. After loosing a single harpoon at a passing fish as a compensatory gesture - but missing (being the first time the gun had been fired) the gun and its accoutrements were consigned to a local bar as a conversation piece (where it has remained until the present day).
