AN EARLY VICTORIAN BLOODSTONE FOB SEAL CIRCA 1850 The shield shaped panel carved with the late medieval armorial display of the WISE family, with the motto Persevere, to a gold scrolled foliate setting, to a split ring, with an Edwardian 9 carat gold leather and gold Alberta, Birmingham 1906 SIZE/DIMENSIONS: Fob including split ring 4.7cm long, Alberta 16cm long GROSS WEIGHT: 34.3 grams This is the late medieval armorial display of the WISE family, derived from Sydenham, Devon and of the king's court of Henry VIII and James I. They were later of two principal lines of descendancy: the first of Totnes, Devon and the second of Clayton Hall, Staffordshire. We are likely to be concerned with the Totnes line, the Staffordshire line appearing to have become extinct in the early nineteenth century. The blazon: sable, three chevronels ermine Crest: a demi lion rampant gules guttee d'eau, holding in the dexter paw a mace or Motto: PERSEVERE   Condition Report: The fob has a deep thin scrape where it may have been acid tested previously, some nibbles to the bloodstone panel, the setting has some light wear.
