School of George Chinnery, half-length portrait of a gentleman with a sailing ship and cliffs behind, unsigned, oil on canvas, 75cm x 62cm, . Re-lined by the current owner. There is a hole in the front canvas which has been done since it has been re-lined. The effect of the re-lining is that all the cracking which had been on the picture surface is now extremely flat and, apart from the hole, there is a repaired area in the top right hand corner and a 6-7 repaired tear in the gentleman's left lapel (as looking at the painting) and just below there another repair of around 3.5 - 4. More than likely some over-painting and touching up, not quite throughout but quite a lot of it you can see without the need of a UV light.
