Waxham Piscina oil on canvas 54 x 38cm Footnote: Gerard Stamp lives and works in Norfolk. He went to school under the shadow of Norwich Cathedral, where he developed a passion for drawing and painting architecture. After art college Gerard followed a career in London’s design and advertising industry before focusing full time on painting. Using light, atmosphere and detail Gerard strives to convey the feeling of a place, and what Ruskin called the “golden stain of time”. He has had multiple exhibitions in Norfolk and London including Spirits in Stone, a series of architectural portraits; Twelve Churches celebrating the Churches Conservation Trust’s 40th anniversary, and Conquest at Norwich Castle (alongside paintings by his artist hero, John Sell Cotman). Lot 17

Golden Bough II oil on brass 18 x 24cm Footnote: “Drawing on the spot intensively is the groundwork of all that I later paint. It feeds on the specifics of particulars: tree, field, angle, light and shadow; alert to the weathering of the year; a vital initial response to the seized moment.” Having read English at Oxford, Kate trained at Camberwell and Falmouth Schools of Art. She has exhibited regularly ever since, particularly in London and East Anglia but also internationally. Her work can be found in numerous public and private collections in the UK and abroad.

Bales at Hardley, August 2019 pastel on paper 58 x 76cm Footnote: Cornelia is a landscape painter based in East Anglia. She trained at Byam Shaw, and Chelsea School of Art. Lot 47

Holme Beach oil on canvas 15 x 20cm Footnote: Lorraine’s paintings draw strongly on the sense of space, light and atmosphere that she finds in the empty, isolated panoramas of the Wash and of the North Norfolk coast. "The challenge facing me as an artist is to remake on canvas the monumental yet momentary and fluid qualities that I encounter in these environments and their natural phenomena. I paint in the studio, from memories and recollected impressions and from sketches and photographs taken in the field. My approach is reflective, intuitive and often subliminal. I apply, remove and re-apply paint in the very flexible and physical manner that oil paint allows. I work over time, repeatedly layering paint and building up the surface of the painting until I have achieved a specific sense of place or atmosphere. I often seek to balance isolation and absence with a sense of harmonious calm and stillness. The paintings involve a pursuit of things that are indistinct, elusive and ever-changing. I strive for paintings with a liquid, viscous quality where ambiguities of surface and reflection and of depth and distance can combine to convey the ambiguities of land, sea and sky”
