FISCHER ROBERT: (1943-2008) American-born Icelandic World Chess Champion. Signed colour 8.5 x 6 `giant` postcard issued to commemorate the World Chess Championship Match between Robert Fischer and Boris Spaasky in Iceland, 1972. The composite image features Icelandic scenes, the American and Russian flags, a chessboard and knight as well as oval portraits of both players at the centre. Signed (`Bobby Fischer`) in blue ink with his name alone, largely across a light area of the postcard. Rare. About EX Following his success in this Chess Championship, held in Reykjavik, the American Fischer captured the World Championship from the Russian Spaasky. The match, widely publicised as a Cold War battle, attracted more worldwide interest than any other chess match, before or since. Fischer remained World Champion for three years until 1975.

MONROE MARILYN: (1926-1962) American Actress & Sex Symbol. An excellent, vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of the blonde actress standing in a three quarter length pose wearing a figure hugging plain off-the-shoulder dress. The image, captured by 20th Century Fox studios photographer Frank Powolny, dates from the early 1950s and was one of a series of publicity portraits for the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Signed across a clear area of the image in bold green fountain pen ink, `To Gil, Love and Kisses, Marilyn Monroe`. Very slightly neatly trimmed to the left white border and with a few extremely light, minor surface and corner creases. Some very light, minor feathering to the ink. A truly breathtaking signed photograph, VG Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) is a film adaptation of the musical and starred Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. Monroe appeared in the role of the gold-digging Lorelei Lee and her rendition of the song Diamonds Are a Girl`s Best Friend is considered an iconic performance of the silver screen.
