Military General Service Medal 1793-1814 23rd (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot, being a single clasp example for Corunna awarded to “GEORGE SUTTON 23RD FOOT”. Medal has good dark patina and remains in very good overall condition. Private George Sutton was born in Golburn, Lancashire. He attested on 5th June 1807 aged 22 years. His trade at the time of enlistment was a weaver. He was discharged on 24th March 1816. Confirmed as only being entitled to the single clasp. He appears on the Waterloo medal roll serving in Captain Wynne’s Company Light Infantry. He appears on the regimental description books for both 1st and 2nd battalions. This medal is recorded as being sold at Glendining’s in 1916.

Victorian Royal Marines Light Infantry Other Ranks Home Service Helmet, blue cloth covered home service pattern helmet with brass Victorian crowned other ranks Royal Marines Light Infantry helmet plate, other ranks pattern spike base with rosetted and short pattern spike. Leather backed linked chinstrap and side rosettes. Interior with leather sweatband. Stamped to the inside with WD, broad arrow and 1909 date. Helmet is also stamped with “PROPERTY OF ALDERSHOT TATTOO”. Generally good condition.
Great War Gallipoli Casualty Chatham Battalion Royal Naval Division Royal Marine Light Infantry Memorial Plaque, the bronze plaque was awarded to “DENNIS JOSEPH MARREN”. Complete with the card outer case and in good overall condition. Corporal Dennis Joseph Marren was killed in action serving with the Chatham Battalion Royal Naval Division Royal Marine Light Infantry on 1st May 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Dennis Joseph Marren was born in Hackney on 20th September 1889. He served with the Chatham Battalion RMLI at Ostend, Dunkirk and the Defence of Antwerp in 1914. His service number was CH/13874. His 1914 star was issued to his widow on 29th April 1920.
Post 1902 British Lord Lieutenants / Civilian Officers Dress Bicorn Cap, fine beaver skin bicorn cap with embroidered brocade and silver bullion wire centre with crowned central button. Complete with its original green feathered plume. Interior with light tan leather sweatband and white artificial silk lining with gilt tooled makers details. Housed in its original japanned storage tin. Vendor states this headdress belonged to Sir Basil Thompson KCB, British colonial administrator and prison governor, who was Head of the CID during World War I. This gave him a key role in arresting wartime spies, and he was closely involved in the prosecution of Mata Hari, Sir Roger Casement and many Irish and Indian nationalists. His equating of Jews with Bolshevism led to accusations of anti-semitism. Thomson was also a successful novelist. No indication of attribution.
WW1 British Fusilier Marked Steel Combat Helmet, good untouched example of a 2nd pattern British helmet with rim covering. Rough textured paint finish to the exterior of the shell and painted insignia in the form of a white / cream rectangle with red fusilier fused grenade insignia. Complete with a very light oilskin cloth liner system and brown leather chinstrap. Helmet shows quite a lot of service wear.
WW1 French Light Infantry (Chasseurs) Adrian Pattern Steel Helmet, good untouched example with dark horizon blue paint finish to the exterior and interior of the shell. Light infantry bugle badge to the centre of the helmet. Interior retains the original leather liner and leather chinstrap. Some wear to the exterior paint and dryness to the leather liner.
WW2 Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve Officers Cap, fine example of the female pattern cap in fine quality khaki cloth. Cloth chinstrap with general service buttons. Officers silvered cap badge to the front. Officer quality interior with diamond to the crown. Very light service wear. Overall a very good example.
Victorian Somerset Light Infantry Staff Sergeants Tunic and Kit Bag, fine scarlet tunic with dark blue collar bordered in gilt brocade. Regimental pattern collar badges. Victorian general service tunic buttons to the front, shoulders and rear. Bullion chevrons to one lower sleeve. Shoulder straps with bullion embroidered regimental details. Interior with blanket lining. Accompanied by the original storage kit bag with stencilled details to the front, “418 Staff Sgt R. Honnor 1ST Som. L.I Netley”. Tunic shows some wear as to be expected.
Victorian Royal Marines Light Infantry 1868 Pattern Tunic, good worn example of the scarlet tunic with other ranks pattern RMLI Victorian tunic buttons. Stand up plain blue collar. Shoulder boards with globe in wreath to the centres, one shoulder board is loose. Service chevron to the lower sleeve. Interior with blanket lining and various ink stamps. This tunic was issued on 30th April 1883 to 283 T Downing. Tunic shows some wear and some moth damage.
WW1 British 1917 Pattern Shoulder Rank Tunic of Kings Royal Rifle Corps Interest, fine quality officers tunic tailored by Hawkes & Co, Savile Row, London. Blackened regimental officers buttons to the front, pockets and shoulder straps. Blackened regimental pattern rank pips for the rank of Captain and blackened brass regimental shoulder titles. To the lower sleeve is a bullion embroidered officers pattern double wound stripe. Finely lined interior to the tunic. Interior tailors label has inked name of the original owner, this sadly is not that clear but it looks like, “Lt G C Everett”. Inside the lower right hand pocket is a field dressing pouch, unusual as often they are on the inside of the tunic. Some light wear and a couple of areas of small moth nips but generally a good untouched Great War tunic, worthy of research to try and decipher the name and research his career.
WW2 British Airborne Forces Denison Smock, good example of the standard pattern British Denison smock as issued to the Airborne forces in WW2. Half zip front with brass press stud buttons to the pockets and lower section. Complete with its original crutch strap. Interior of the smock has the original Arthur Miller manufactures label with 1945 date and size marked 5. Shows just light wear but overall a very good example.
