Ellery Queen, in his bibliography, The Detective Story, was unaware of this title, only listing the 1935 edition. Exceedingly scarce with any inscription from the author - we can trace no other like copy at auction. The inscription seems to urge the unknown recipient not to use this book as a form of moral guidance.

Mann (Henrich) The Blue Angel, first English edition, 1p. advertisements at end, endpapers lightly spotted, original decorative cloth, gilt, extremities a little scuffed, dust-jacket, nicks and fraying to spine ends and extremities, short closed 1cm tears along joints, light surface soiling, otherwise still a very good or excellent copy, 8vo, [1930].⁂ First English edition and first "Photoplay edition", i.e., the first edition to use the title The Blue Angel, after the German Edition of 1905, titled Professor Unrat, and preceding the 1932 Jarrolds' printing. The edition was used as a plug for the Ufa Wardour film, directed by Josef von Sternberg, which starred Emil Jannings and a young Marlene Dietrich, who was catapulted to stardom by this film. A very scarce edition.
