A pair of Chinese Canton carved ivory die shakers, 19th century, 6.5cm high, (at fault) each carved in relief with figural landscape scenes, a similar smaller carved bone pair, 6cm high and sixteen carved bone draughts counters, along with thirty seven Chinese carved mother of pearl gaming counters, a white metal filigree drawn rickshaw, 13cm long and a Chinese famille rose bowl, 12.5cm diameter (Qty) CONDITION REPORT: The taller red stained ivory shaker has a few small nicks and small hair line cracks at rim of base. The larger white ivory shaker is in poor condition with a large crack, a chip at the base and a small hole. (as found) The two smaller shakers are carved bone and are in better condition, the base of the red example is loose. Two of the bone draughts are smaller than the others. All grubby with some small nicks and general wear. Gaming counters with light wear. Lacquered case with a chip to flange and worn at base. White metal piece missing a few tassels and with light wear. A Japanese vase in the style of Kinkozan, Meiji period, the cylindrical vase flanked with two zoomorphic mask and ring handles, externally painted with pheasants besides a stream within a mountainous landscape with prunus blossom above, impressed and painted marks, 23cm (at fault) CONDITION REPORT: Unglazed foot rim. Visible stained hairline cracks running throughout body. Some gilt wear to hight points and rims. Some light surface scratches. Slightly grubby.
An Art Deco style lamp modelled as a sailing boat, modelled with a painted black hull and chromed sails, 47cm high CONDITION REPORT: Please note that this is not period Art Deco but in the style of. There is a rough patch to the top of the main sail on the back where another piece may have attached. Patina of light scratches and wear to the chromed surface throughout. Wear to the paint on the hull throughout. Some wear around the screws where they join the sails, the screw heads for the sails to the boat at the bottom are filed and rusted philips head examples. Overall fair. Lighting lots are sold as decorative items only, prospective buyers must consult with a qualified electrician before use or installation of these items.
After Antonio Canova - a carved alabaster bust of Napoleon, 19th century, bears a signature verso, 39cm CONDITION REPORT: Light yellowing to the alabaster throughout. Some scuffs / knocks within the hair. A blemish to one side of the nose. Some small chips to the shoulder on the right hand side. Some larger grazes / chips to the other shoulder at the top and base - (see additional images). Lightly grubby within the hair line and with light age wear scuffs and scratches here and there throughout.
A 19th century parlour guitar, with floral mother of pearl detailing, rosewood sides and back, the brass fittings for the gear heads are stamped 'C.EON', in original case with label for Broxton Station Cheshire, 93cmThe guitar originally belonged to a Lady from Carden Park Cheshire and has passed through the family. She used to play it in the morning while the maid brushed and styled her hair. There is written card internally of the ebonised case for 'Y. P. Guivier, music string warehouse, 6 Golden Square, London'. CONDITION REPORT: Guitar lightly grubby and with age wear patina of light scratches, heaviest to one side of the strings on the front board and to one side of the back. Some rusting to the screws / tuning keys. Possibly the back of the shaft / finger board and tuning head has been re-ebonised. There is one worm hole near to the top of the head. Case heavily scuffed and worn and with some old worm holes. The instrument was insured in 1984 for £200 where it was described as mid 19th century and probably London made. No makers label
A 19th century French ormolu mantel or desk eight day clock, with engine turned and silvered dial and movement striking on a gong on the hour and half hour, the movement stamped 'Vincenti & Cie Medaille D'Argent 1855', the case with serpent handle and decorated with oak and anthemion leaves, 17.5cm with handle up CONDITION REPORT: The clock is currently running but we can not guarantee that it is in full working condition. The clock strikes on the hour and half hour. Dial lightly grubby with a few marks, some light scratches and rubbing to the numbers. Case lightly grubby, with some light marks and a slight shallow dent to the left hand edge of the foot plate. Gond with some rusting. Glass with a few light scuffs.
A large 19th century French perpetual mantel clock, the multi dial eight day clock with circular white enamel dial and black enamel Roman numeral chapter ring with visible Brocot escapement, above a perpetual calendar dial with moon phase and subsidiary day, date and month dials, and a aneroid barometer to the right, movement stamped for Samuel Marti and numbered '20736', striking on a gong, compensating mercury pendulum, the moulded serpentine scroll slate case with marble inlay and Egyptian revival decoration, 51.5cm high (at fault) CONDITION REPORT: Some scratches to all of the glass. The glass to the barometer is cracked. Barometer dial lightly grubby and with some scuff marks. Some light scratches to the enamel on the centre of the dial and four small hair line cracks also. Metal work to the clock with general age wear tarnishing. Case lightly grubby and with some chips and nibbled here and there throughout the edge. Largest chip to the back left side of the case (please see additional images). We can not guarantee that it is in full working condition. Pendulum and barometer contain mercury and can not be shipped outside of the UK.
An 18th century style oak wingback settle, with panelled back on standard end supports 125cm H x 184cm W x 50cm D CONDITION REPORT: Some age wear cracks to the settle on the left and a section of the knot lacking. The front boards at the base appear a little dry and faded. General light patina throughout through use but, some scuffing around the base, overall fair.
An 18th century oak mule chest, with hinged top above two drawers stile feet. 74cm H x 128cm W x 54cm D CONDITION REPORT: There are two fairly modern pine batons to the underside of the lid to hold the two planks together. The top of the lid with an old square repair near to the front. Handles and escutcheons are not original. General light age wear throughout, the legs have lost some height over time. There are no base boards visible when the drawers are removed. Overall appearance fair.
A pair of early 20th century board room tub chairs, c1910, with faux leather upholstery on tapered oak legs 79cm H CONDITION REPORT: The chairs are circa 1910 but with later rexine covers and none matching cushions. General light age wear, a little grubby in parts. Legs with some light scratches, later additions to the underside of the legs. The seats are about 48cm wide x 46cm deep. Some rusting to some of the metal studs.

A George III gold sovereign dated 1820, weight 8gms CONDITION REPORT: There is a small scratched patch at about 2'oclock on the reverse side, there is a small speck of dirt? within this. Light grazing to the cheek of George. Light wear to the surface throughout with some light scratches, perhaps two or three tiny marks to the edge of milled edge. There are some small dirt / black marks to the cheek ofthe King and one to the fold of the hair. There is a small blemish to the bottom of the 'S' of Geogrius. There are some black marks to the back of the coin also - one of which was a line across the rump of the horse. It does not appear that the coin has been in a mount.

Spines lightly faded - some blemishes. Back of Vols I + II with some light blemishes. Gilt edges with some light wear. Top and bottom of spines with light rubbing / knocks to the board corners on Vol I. Folding map to Fellowship with a small tear, where is pastes down (this does not affect the map image). Internally generally clean. No inscriptions.
A James Dixon & Sons cased silver plated cocktail set for six, circa 1910, retailed by Dunhill, No.L2024, the pigskin case with leather handle enclosing a fitted interior revealing EPNS drinking accessories comprising; a central cocktail shaker with strainer and lid, containing six beakers and bitters bottle, surrounded by three curved spirit hip flasks, unstamped case 20cm high PLEASE NOTE: We believe that the fitted case to this set is a possible later replacement. There are NO Dunhill marks on any of the pieces. CONDITION REPORT: The pig skin case with some wear around the flange, the strap (which does have a small split to the side), the hinge at the back and some other little marks here and there. All of the hip flasks marked on the base (please see image), the marks on the base of the shaker differ a little (please see image). Some light tarnishing to inside of shaker. The glass bottle perhaps does not fit fully flush within the cup when all together. There are no marks to the internal bottle, the cups or the lid. All plated pieces with light wear, no significant faults.

The mount is browned and with foxing. Frame with light wear.
English School (early 19th century), Oil on canvas, Portrait of a lady, half length, wearing lace cap and collar and holding a book, 74.5cm x 62cm, Framed CONDITION REPORT: Canvas appears to be in original untouched condition. Slightly saggy in the frame with a covering of age dirt, light scratches / scuffs, some drip marks, and a craquelure throughout. Two small dents / holes to the right hand shoulder of the sitter, small hole to top left and a small mark to the nose. The frame with age wear cracks to the moulding and general scuffs, the gilt painted finish may not be original.

The colours therefore remain deep and fresh. There is a small horizontal fold to the upper right hand corner which does not affect the image itself. Small nick/ tear to right hand side outer edge approx 10cms from lower right hand corner. There is a diagonal crease to the sheet approx 1 cm above the artist's monogram and extending to right hand side edge. very light staining to sheet. Excepting this, in an overall very good state of preservation.

Some general relatively light creasing within lower left hand corner which essentially does not impinge on the image itself. Light/ superficial horizontal crease within lower border between inscription and signature. Other general light creasing to edges. Minor horizontal crease to upper right hand corner which just intersects the outer corner of plate but is nominal. Colour depth remains strong. Some light time staining to sheet. Overall good state of preservation.

The colours therefore remain deep and fresh. Some general and minor light creasing to outer edges which does affect the image itself. Some minor transference of ink from one colourway to another mostly within the whites of the cricket players and evident on images. Light staining to paper. Overall in a very good state of preservation.

Following the initial condition report this work has now been framed and mounted using acid free tape and an acid free mount/backboard.

Light surface dirt. Very subtle push mark to canvas on the left hand side background approx centre and also in line with her right hand side shoulder within the background with associated minor abrasion. There is tape around all four sides of the canvas which is lifting and coming away. Some relatively minor rubbing and losses along the top edge in particular and to a lesser degree on the other sides. There is a cluster of tiny sized nicks / missing paint to the canvas around her left hand, shoulder/ hair and hand area where the pale ground is showing through. Good thick impasto to surface. There is nothing to discern under a uv lamp. For any further information, please contact the department.
