A late 19th century continental oak tall cabinet, featuring a moulded cornice and blind fret frieze above two stained glass and leaded light panelled doors enclosing four shelves, flanked on either side by moulded architectural decoration, the base section with bow front protruding feature supported by an architectural bracket, above the two blind fret panelled cupboard doors, flanked by fluted columns, raised on plinth base, height approx 204x108cm wide (illustrated)
Harry Hime (Irish, 1863-1933) - 'Landscape with Mountains', oil on canvas, signed, approx. 50x75cm, inset relief moulded and swept gilt gesso frame (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: 1002 - The painting has two tears in the lower left corner, the second in the upper right corner. Nottable stretcher bar cracks. Noticeable cracking and crazing throughout. Yellowing to the varnish. Darkening to the paint. The painting floresces green under UV light, indicating a natural resin varnish.
TOWEL RAILS. Two metal mounted glass towel rails. CONDITION REPORTS: The 'two stepped' towel rail is in generally good condition, there is tarnishing and some wear to the plated ends. Each glass rail has a small flaking bruise and both have light surface scratches. The other single support rail is in a similar condition but has no bruises.
ENAMEL BADGES. Various wartime badges etc. Note: Lots 400-414 are mostly badges by Miller of Birmingham. Many obtained by the vendor directly from the works when living nearby. CONDITION REPORTS: The two 'ARP' Badges - Both these badges have some missing red enamel at the top and further missing enamel on the bottom edge of the white band. The 'Devil Dog' - has a very small bruise to the blue enamel at 1 o'clock, also a similar bruise to the edge of the letter D and the very edge of the letter E. There are a couple of light surface scratches and the gilt lining has some wear. Union Jack with 'V' in centre - the enamel is generally in good condition with some wear to the gilt outlining.
AFRICAN HEADREST. A decorated African headrest, with inlaid beadwork decoration. Width 27 x height 13cm. CONDITION REPORTS: Overall, this headrest is showing signs of light general wear and tear. The top surface has worn-through patination. The edges of the top and base are scuffed, with some minor loss. There are six small hammered beads missing. On one side of the rounded support, there is a natural crack, that has now been filled with a fine wedge of wood, pinned into place. This work has apparently been done several years ago, possibly for aesthetic reasons. On the opposite side, there is also a rounded plug, again possibly to fill a 'hole'. Overall, in good, original condition.
AUSTRIAN BRONZE PARROT. A late 19th/early 20th century Austrian, cold painted bronze model of an African grey parrot, stamped Geschutzt. Length 12cm. CONDITION REPORTS: The parrot is in generally good conditin, however, there is some rubbing to the paint on the upper part of the back Also, some further rubbing to the paint on the parrot's right eye. On both sides of the head, there is some light wear to the paint. The parrot sits well on a flat surface and does not wobble.
ERIC LEAPER. Two globular vases, a night light & a dish(rim chip) by Eric Leaper. CONDITION REPORTS: The tray has a small chip to one corner, which is noticeable from the front. One of the oval vases has a small bruise to the trailing glaze decoration. All four pieces have some fine light crazing. Otherwise in generally good condition.
ERIC LEAPER. Two models, a squirrel, height 9cm & a duck, length 10cm, by Eric Leaper. CONDITION REPORTS: The squirrel has bruising to the left ear which has resulted in a very small flaking chip to the top of the ear. There is a little light crazing throughout. The duck has a little light crazing throughout, but is otherwise in generally good condition.
NEWLYN COPPER. A Newlyn Industrial Class copper panel decorated with seahorses, possibly for a blotter or stationery folder cover. Unmarked. 31 x 28cm. CONDITION REPORTS: The plaque is in generally good condition and has not been over-polished and still has good definition. There are some light surface scratches, with a more noticeable scratch on the left hand corner which is about 6cm in length.
* LOUISE RITCHIE, BLUESCAPE oil on canvas, 213cm x 213cm Unframed, as intended Note: Louise Ritchie gained a fine art degree and post graduate diploma in drawing & painting from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee. She has won several major awards including the Glasgow Art Club Fellowship, RGI (1998), the Scottish Art Club Award (1997), and the Millar Homes Paris Scholarship Citie Des Artes (1990). She has exhibited widely, including a solo show 'Land Light Vision' at Glasgow's Compass Gallery (1996), and at the London and Glasgow Art Fairs. Louise was also nominated for the Millar Homes Young Artist of the Year Award (1990 & 1991), and has work in several major collections including, the Mirror Group, London, Dundee District Council and Fife Regional Arts. She was elected to serve on the Council of the SSA, the Society of Scottish Artists in 1998, and has taught in academic institutions in Glasgow and Dundee. Louise was invited to perform within the installation 'Killing Time', a collaboration between artist Graham Fagen and Suspect Cultures Graham Eatough at Dundee Contemporary Arts (2006).
