Morton (Cavendish, 1911-2015, & Concord Morton, 1911-1979). The Medina Valley, Isle of Wight, circa 1930s, colour woodcut on paper, signed by possibly both artists lower right (one signature Cavendish Morton, the other possibly sometime altered from Concord to Cavendish), few light spots, image size 39.6 x 51.6 cm (15 1/4 x 20 1/4 ins), with margins, window mounted, framed and glazed (55 x 68.5 cm), verso with pencilled title Yarmouth, I.O.W., and with adhered label including title The Medina ValleyQTY: (1)NOTE:Although the signatures both appear to be by Cavendish Morton (the lower one obscured by the window mount), it is known that most of their colour woodcut prints were produced before the Second World War by the two brothers working together. They had both been taught the art of colour (including Japanese) woodblock printing by their father, with additional instruction from both Urushibara Mokuchu and A.W. Seaby. The twin brothers then developed their own style, creating several joint works depicting scenes around the Isle of Wight, where they lived for many years until the outbreak of war.
