A George III red tortoiseshell serpentine two division tea caddy, with white metal swing handle, corner mounts, with ebonised base and claw and ball feet, the interior with two canisters with octagonal lids, 16.5cm high x 22.5cm wide The caddy had been entered from a private property in South Shropshire. None of the white metal mounts are hall marked, hence 'white metal', however, they have cleaned up fairly easily. Metal mounts lightly grubby. Tortoiseshell lightly grubby throughout with some fading on the lid (see images). The joints to the tortoiseshell are a little open at two other corners and suspect that the joints have been glued at the corners but not recently. A small section lacking to the back left corner of the lid (see image) and the back right corner angle of the base is in two parts. Ebonised base with general light age wear. Flat head screws to the feet and the hinge. Lining to the underside of the lid stiff at the edges suggesting that it has been glued down later. One of the canister lids detached - glue has tried. The flat top section of the other canister has two hair line cracks. Overall, despite faults appearance good. NO KEY, ALL images are online
