John Swatsley (American, B. 1937) "Golden Eagle" Signed lower right. Oil on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 20c Official Mail Envelope issued January 12, 1983. Nearly always, the proud eagle has been just the sort of symbol kings, emperors and nations favor and, for this reason, has often been used as their emblem. To this day, the national seal of Mexico bears the figure of an eagle devouring a serpent which symbolizes to the people of that nation the triumph of good over evil. Other nations, including Egypt and Persia, have lifted the eagle high as part of their battle standards. One of the few times when the eagle was portrayed in a less than favorable light was in the legend of Ganymede which exaggerated the bird's ability to carry off prey. In this story the eagle actually took to the sky with children in its talons! In reality, however, even the powerful Golden Eagle can lift no more than eight pounds. Still, with its fearsome gaze and soaring flight, it is little wonder that the eagle continues to be a favorite emblem of kings and nations to this very day. Image Size: 18.25 x 15.5 in. Overall Size: 23.75 x 20 in. Unframed. (B07815)
Steve Ferguson (B. 1946) "General Dynamics F16C Fighting Airplane" Signed lower left. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover with the U.S. Flag 29c stamp issued January 20, 1992. In 1975 General Dynamics began mass production of a new, light-weight air combat fighter for the U.S. Air Force. Designated the F-16, the "Fighting Falcon" performed superlatively during trials and demonstrated excellent interceptor and bomber capabilities as well. Also ordered by U.S. allies, the aircraft first saw combat in 1981, when eight Israeli F-16s destroyed an Iraqi nuclear installation. But the aircraft truly proved its mettle as a fighter bomber during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Loaded with both cluster bomb units and Sidewinder missiles, F-16s from units such as the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron from Hill AFB, Utah, wreaked havoc on entrenched Iraqi troops. With regular updates in avionics and electronics, this invaluable aircraft should serve well into the 21st C. Image Size: 16.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. (B13444)

Oil painting on canvas. Michele Rapisardi (1822- Catania Florence, 1886). Eighteenth-century historical scene. 52X68."Painter of true romantic nature, he left Catania and went to Rome, Florence and Venezia. Full of classical culture, the painter loves the themes of historical and literary mastera, supplementing it with the study of the painters of the sixteenth century (he especially loved Raphael). His stay in Paris in 1860, and the contact with the French painter Auguste Gendron (1818 to 1881) is reflected in later works that will have an academic character emphatically, pompier taste. Sensual nudes of women and dreamlike images appear in his paintings giving a change in his painting from the thematic and chromatic point of view. So it comes to his artistic maturity, leaving behind the old romance, creating works of scenes, costume, eye-catching female sculptures. Its chromaticity thus becomes cooler, as evidenced by his exercises and his studies on light. It combines in its own way a historicism Morelliano (Naples, Naples 1823- 1901) completing its romantic array with a realistic coloring. Excellent remain paintings where his brushwork loose but elegant, is able to bring forth an erotic and sensual charge, albeit with a strong sentimental address." STUDIO ASOR

His paintings are a document of English society of the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century. A rare virtuosity of the technique and a warm palette are easly visible in his portraits, which emphasizes the character and, at the same time, do not enhance it with the tricks that often resulted in bad taste. In this particular painting, the bright light from above, sweet, moist eyes, curly and shiny hair, rich and warm palette, is the typical expression of a typical irrefutable pictorial skills of Sir Lawrence Thomans
