14th King’s Hussars Victorian post 1861 Officer’s Sabretache.A very fine and scarce example, the scarlet cloth face edged with gold lace with central cream silk line and richly embroidered with large crowned VR Cypher with regimental Eagle nestling within open laurel wreath bearing padded blue velvet cushion scrolls, bearing the Regimental Battle Honours. Tan leather backing and wallet to reverse; complete with three suspension D rings. Some surface mothing to the scarlet ground cloth, bullion remains bright. ... PLEASE NOTE an Official Replacement issueLieutenant Commander Edward Barry Greynville Gibson, 4th Baron Ashbourne was educated at Rugby School, Warwickshire. He was appointed a Midshipman in 1952 and Sub-Lieutenant in 1953. Lieutenant in 1955. he was promoted Lieutenant-Commander in 1963 and served as Captain of the minesweeper, H.M.S. Crofton between 1963 and 1964. and Captain of the light cruiser, H.M.S. Phoebe in 1966. He was Staff Commander of the Naval Forces in the Gulf in 1967 and retired as medically unfit 9th September 1972.
WW1 Royal Marine Light Infantry Armed Merchant Cruiser Cedric Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) Group of Five.Awarded to PLY 6548 Private William Reynolds. Comprising: Distinguished Service Medal, “PLY.6548. PTE W.REYNOLDS R.M.L.I HMS CEDRIC”, 1914/15 Star, “PTE RMLI”, British War Medal, Victory Medal “PTE RMLI”, Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (EVIIR), “PRIVATE RMLI”. Group mounted for display. The announcement of the award of the DSM appeared in the London Gazette on the 7th August 1915 “In recognition of their services in the Patrol Cruisers since the outbreak of the war.”Private William Reynolds was a native of Caston Norfolk and enlisted into the RMLI on the 7th July 1893 at the age of 19. During his early service he was attendant to Colonel Harvest and later Captain Mainam-Smith of the Royal Marines. He was awarded the LS&GC Medal in September 1908 and on the 6th July 1914 was discharged on completion of his length of service. However things did not go to plan and he was recalled to the Colours within the month with the outbreak of the Great War. On the 7th December 1914 he joined the newly converted White Star Liner Cedric, now serving as an Armed Merchant Cruiser with the 10 Curser Squadron out of Liverpool. In January 1916 he was transferred to HMS Teutonic, after Cedric ran a ground. He remained with her until February 1917 when he was posted to shore establishment and remained until his discharge on the 13th February 1919.

RMLI” (Engraved), Meritorious Service Medal (EVIIR), “J DYER STAFF SERGEANT 4TH CO. RMLI 5TH OCTOBER 1911”. First medal suspension slack.Staff Sergeant Joseph Dyer, enlisted into the RMLI as a drummer on the 8th December 1852 at the age of 13 years and served in this capacity during the Crimean War onboard HMS James Watts a 91-gun steam and sail-powered second rate ship of the line. He also served onboard HMS Euryalus and was promoted to the rank of Private in 1861 and Corporal the following year. In 1864 he was promoted to Sergeant and obtained his Hythe certificate of musketry in 1865. He was then posted to the Mediterranean Fleet in 1866 until 1869. Returning to the UK he was appointed Sergeant Instructor of Musketry 1871. He was discharged on the 13th May 1879, nominated for the award of the MSM, he received this with pension on the 15th October 1911 and died at Davenport in 1920.

HOBBS RMLI “CORFU” SERVICES DURING WAR. French Medal Militaire. Quartermaster Sergeant Ernest Frederick Hobbs MSM was born in 1885 and joined the RMLI on the 30th June 1899, serving as a Bugler, after a time with the Portsmouth Division he was posted to HMS Excellent in April 1901. At the outbreak of the Great War with the rank of Sergeant he was serving at HMS Egmont the Depot ship at Malta, this would be his official posting throughout the war. However he was attached to the British Liaison Officer for the French Naval Commander in Chief and was therefore awarded the French Medaille Militaire for his services (Confirmed). He was also part of the Royal Marine Guard at Corfu and for this service was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Returning to the UK with the rank of Barrack Quartermaster Sergeant he retired in August 1923 and returned to Malta where he died in 1934.

He saw early sea service which included HMS Barraconda 1893, HMS Grafton 1895, HMS Leander 1897, HMS Hawke 1901, HMS Wildfire 1903. At the outbreak of the Great War he was serving as a Sergeant at Chatham Division. By the end of the war he had been promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1. This appears to be his full medal entitlement. He retired in 1921.

Accompanied by a quantity of research.DSO London Gazette 3rd June 1918, MC London Gazette 14th January 1916, Order of the Crown of Italy London Gazette 19th August 1921 ( work with the IWGC). Italian Croce di Guerra London Gazette 17th May 1919.Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Martin Lowry a Cornishman was born in March 1875, after attending Truro Collage Camborne School of Mining, he qualified as a mining engineer, finding work first at Dolcoath Mine and later as an Inspector of mines Gold Coast 1908 to 1911 and then in a similar capacity worked in North Nigeria until 1912. At the outbreak of the Great War having previously held a commission with the 1st VB DCLI from 1906 to 1908 was accepted by the Regiment and commissioned into the 3rd Battalion in August 1914. He soon found himself with the 2nd Bn in France landing in December 1914. He was returned to England on the 26th January 1915 suffering from frostbite and found himself transferred to the newly formed 10th Bn DCLI. With his knowledge of Mine engineering, he was in August 1915 promoted to the rank of Captain having been seconded to the Royal Engineers Tunnelling Companies and was posted to the 174th Tunnelling Company Returning to France to join his new unit, he distinguished himself in October 1915 when he attempted the rescue of a fellow Officer and school friend Lieutenant John Payner and his CSM. His gallantry resulted in the award of the Military Cross. In January 1916 he was promoted to the rank of Major and given Command of the 173rd Tunnelling Company operating in the Fauquissart area. In June 1918 he was awarded the DSO and by the end of the war had been also MID on two occasions. He was promoted to Lt. Col and given Command of the Maltese Tunnelling Company in Italy September 1918. In December 1918 he applied and was accepted to the post of Inspector of Works Imperial War Graves Commission Italy a post he held for a number of years.

Four screw posts to reverse with hallmarked nuts, complete with backing plate with matching hallmarks. VGC

On the 16th September the 10th Bn were ordered to attack Gird trenches and were caught by German machine gun fire, unable to advance, resulting in the loss of some 400 men killed, wounded, or missing.

Above the Garter, a richly foliated gilt scroll inscribed ‘Northamptonshire’, below another inscribed ‘& Rutland Militia’. Below the bottom scroll, the Horse Shoe of Rutland. Coldstream Guards Light Company Officer Circa 1820’s Continental Porcelain Figure.This fine quality figure depicts an Officer of the Light Company wearing scarlet coatee, shako and holding his sword. Height 10 1/2 inches. Maker’s mark to base FM Dresden. Removable plume for shako absent.The figure appears to be in good condition, but bidders must satisfy themselves to the condition prior to bidding. Not subject to return.
Scottish Highland Light Infantry Edwardian OR’s shako.A good Boer War 1901 dated example. Dark blue cloth body with diced bands red-white-red and red-green-red. To the front, a white metal post 1901 shako badge and cord boss mounted with white metal thistle device. Complete with woollen ball tuft and plaited black mohair cord festoon across the front terminating in black egg moulds. Black patent leather peak and chin strap. The interior with leather sweatband and original Hobson and Sons oval paper label. Lining stamped ‘3 years’ and 1901. Minor service wear. GC

To the front, a regimental pattern helmet plate bearing the Thane of Fife on horseback wearing full armour set against a gilt brass ribbed satire. This in turn mounted onto a four pointed silvered star, the uppermost displaced by a Victorian crown. A tri part scroll is with motto and to the centre FLH in gilt metal. Two rose head bosses support a incorrect gilt interlinked chin chain, with leather backing. A silvered spike supports a white horsehair plume, with gilt metal rose boss. The interior with leather sweatband. Overall GC some dents to skull, minor service and age wear, stitching faults to the chin chain.This pattern of helmet was approved by the regiment in 1896

WW2 1943 Airborne Forces steel helmet with leather harness.A scarce example by Briggs Motor Bodies, Ltd (Dagenham), the skull is painted with light green finish and is complete with webbing and leather chin harness. The leather sweatband bears maker’s details of ‘B.M.B’ and 1943 date stamp, size 7 5/8. Some service wear, remains a good example of the pattern.

WW2 SOE Agent / Far East “Chindit” Concealed / Assassination Knife. A very rare personalised example, this all steel knife has a double edged blade which has a length of 3 inches and is made from fine quality steel. The hilt retains it’s original cord binding and wrist loop. Overall length 6 inches. Overall GC, light surface staining. The original owner, a Royal Marine Commando informed the vendor he had slightly curved the knife, so it could be concealed in the back of his waist belt.
German Third Reich Kriegsmarine Officer’s dagger circa 1938-45 by Eickhorn, Solingen with straps.A good example, the anchor etched blade with double fuller and to the forte the stamped cutler’s post 1941 backward looking squirrel logo. Gilt metal mounts, twist wire bound simulated ivory grip,complete with scabbard securing button. Housed in gilt metal scabbard with engraved lighting bolts, oak leaf supports for the two loose suspension rings with two gilded aluminium mounted black straps (not a pair, one rather worn). Dull, minor service wear. Light pitting to blade in parts. GC
Early Victorian Royal Fusiliers Officer’s Sword.An unusual example, the single edged curved pipe back blade with etched panel of a Crowned VR Cypher and title “Royal Fusiliers”. The forte with the cutler’s details of “Prosser 3 Charing Cross London”. The blade is set into a 1821 light cavalry pattern hilt, with three steel open bars. The shagreen grip, retaining twist wire binding. Complete with original steel scabbard with dents, fitted with two loose rings. The sword is age and storage wear, dulling and staining to the blade.

Cut steel stud decorated shell guard, knuckle bow, grip and urn pommel. Housed in its black patent leather scabbard with cut steel mounts. Remains in clean condition, light surface rust to chape.
Bedfordshire Light Infantry Militia Victorian Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1852-55.A good scarce silver on copper rectangular plate mounted with cut silver star in turn mounted with a gilt crowned strung bugle ‘18’ lodgedbetween the cords. Beneath the bugle, a gilt scroll inscribed ‘Bedford Light Infantry’. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs. Two surplus holes to reverse. Some restoration. GCBecame 3rd Battalion The Bedfordshire Regiment on 1st July 1881.
85th (Bucks Volunteers) (The King’s Light Infantry Regiment) Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1821-40.A good scarce example. Burnished gilt rectangular plate mounted with crowned oval silver strap inscribed ‘The King’s Light Infantry’; to the centre, a silver strung bugle over ‘85’. Beneath the strap, a straight silver scroll inscribed ‘Peninsula’. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs. Minor service wear. VGC for age. (Parkyn 413)The 85th was granted the title “King’s Light Infantry” in April 1821. It served in Malta and at Gibraltar from 1821 to 1832. The 85th served in North America from 1835 to 1842 and was despatched on horse sleighs across heavy snows from New Brunswick to quell disturbances in Quebec in the winter of 1838. After North America the 85th saw service in the West Indies, in Ireland under the command of Lt.Col. Brook John Taylor and Mauritius under Lt.Col. Manley Power. Became 2nd Battalion KSLI on Friday 1st July 1881
