λ  SIR JACOB EPSTEIN (BRITISH 1880-1959) BRONZE BUST OF POLA NIRENSKA Conceived in 1937, bronze with a gold patina, set on a marble base, unsigned bronze 33cm high, 38cm high overallProvenance: Purchased by the vendor's father approximately 25 years ago. Pola Nirenska (1910-1992) was a Polish performer and choreographer of modern dance. Fleeing Europe in 1935 due to rising antisemitism, she spent 14 years in the United Kingdom before emigrating to the United States. Living in Washington, D.C., was widely acknowledged as the city's leading choreographer and performer of modern dance until her death.Literature: R. Condition Report: As per cataloguing- purchased by the vendor's father approximately 25 years ago- he bought it from someone who had purchased it in a country house sale in Scotland. This is not the example that was offered at Bonhams earlier this year Exact height of bronze is difficult to measure- perhaps 32.6 or 32.7cm Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. As per cataloguing this is unsigned and without foundry marks. The overall appearance is good- with some paler patination from handling/wiping/dusting. Surface dirt which has begun to build up to recesses- may benefit from a light overall clean.
