Very slight fall of die on reverse. About extremely fine/Good extremely fine. The importance of the macedon cavalry is celebrated on Philip II’s coins. The king, infact, gave great importance to it, increasing its strength. Philip reformulated military tactics, inspired by that of Epaminondas: at centre he put the phalanx with the purpose to block the enemy ; the macedon left wing, composed by phalanx and cavalry, had to block enemy right wing instead the macedon right wing, composed by heavy and light cavalry, light phalanx and “shield-bearers”, had to break through the enemy left wing and to attack from the rear the centre of the enemy.

Good extremely fine. The city of Perge was the “capital” of Pamphilia. His foundation was in XI-X cent. BC although ancient acquaintances are attested. Soon, the city became an important centre as Aspendos and Side. So, a lot of people, first the Achmenids, after Alexander III, were interested to conquer it and its trade routes. After Alexander III’s death, Seleucid Dinasty controlled the city until the arrival of the Romans in 188 BC.
