A Patek Philippe 18ct white gold Ellipse gents bracelet wrist watch, c.1972, Ref. 3748/1, Movement No. 1156338, with blue sunburst dial with white gold batons and hands, signed 'PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE SWISS', 18 jewel manual wind movement, calibre 23 300, the 32 x 27mm. oval shaped case with polished bevelled bezel, hallmarked, sapphire glass, original 18ct solid white gold Patek Philippe integral bracelet, with original manufacturer's certificate from Eberhard, Milan, dated 26 July 1972 and later dark brown leather Patek Philippe travel case.* Condition: Winds and runs. Small very light scratch to glass lower right. Dial excellent. Bezel and case sides very good with very minor feint scratches from wear. A few small scratches to case back. Bracelet very good - not twisted and all links very good. Clasp good - opens and closes cleanly and is secure when closed. Leather case very good.
A slag glass and bronzed metal hanging ceiling light, in the style of the American firm Handel, the five petal floral style shade in marbled green slag glass, with beaded bronzed metal borders and gadrooned central mount, with hanging chain, 17½in. (44.5cm.) diameter; together with matching single and double-arm wall lights with lily form shades. (3)
A set of four 19th century Chinese watercolour paintings of artisans at work, on pith paper, finely painted with a shoe maker, a blacksmith, a stone mason and a street vendor, 8¼ x 5¾in. (21 x 14.5cm.), within modern gilt frames with marbled mounts. (4)* Condition: All have light horizontal creasing and some repeated dings to the paper surface from rolling. No splits or tears. Colours bright and fresh. Not examined out of frame.
A Japanese ivory and shibayama large vesta case, Meiji period (1868-1912), decorated with flowering plants with a pheasant, a bee, butterflies and a flying bird, hinged cover, striker to base, 3¼ x 2in. (8.2 x 5.1cm.); together with an ivory and shibayama pill box, decorated with a floral spray, 1¼in. (3.2cm.) diameter. (2)* Condition: - Vesta: No losses to shibayama. Some wear to gilt lacquer, showing darker lacquer beneath. Small light brown stain to centre bottom of front. Feint old 1in. hairline to right side of case. Hinge working correctly. - Box: Very small crack to central roundel on cover. Otherwise good.
An antique Chinese watercolour on silk of a bird, probably 19th century, the white feathered bird perched upon a peony branch, signed with four red seal marks and inscribed with black calligraphy, lined black border, 25½ x 16 3/8in. (64.75 x 41.5cm.), in a modern giltwood frame with bevelled mount.* Condition: Colours bright. Some sooty dirty marks and small scuffs visible to silk and it has been rolled at some time - it is a little cockled and there are some small vertical crease marks and some light horizontal crease marks to the centre areas from that rolling. A line of spot spill marks visible at a diagonal across the upper third of the painting - there are signs that an attempt has been made to restore these at some time, leaving feint, slightly darker-than-background marks around the spot marks. Two small patches of damage to the surface of the silk at lower centre right margin and a few dirty marks to silk at lower right corner.
Vincenzo Gemito (Italian, 1852-1929), early 20th century, a bronze kneeling figure of a fishing boy clutching his catch, on a rocky outcrop, 'Pescatorello con canna', mid-brown patination, signed 'GEMITO PROPRIET ARTISTICA', mounted on a circular bronze socle, 9½in. (24.1cm.) high.* Condition: Some light scratching to top surface of base. Otherwise good. Fishing rod is complete but loose in its mounting and the inserted end is slightly bent.
A tinplate Stollwerck "Victoria" Savings Bank, the nicely lithographed tin depicting cherubs & elves at play, two coin slots to the top, Chocolate - Sweetmeats, 'Take care of the pence, The pounds will take care of themselves', 9¾in. (24.8cm.) high.* Condition: Glass panels good. Working. Some light wear to lithographed finish to edges, but overall very good, bright condition.
A Chinese blue-ground dragon court robe, 19th / early 20th century, woven in gilt threads with nine five clawed imperial dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst ruyi clouds and symbolic Buddhist treasures, above a tumultuous sea with descending lishui stripes beneath, a conforming black border to front and collar, the black sleeves with horse shoe cuffs each with a further dragon, with gilt brass ball fastenings and light blue damask silk lining, 55½in. (141cm.) long from top of collar to hem.* Condition: Some dulling to gold thread to edges of lower striped section. Black border to collar/front has some shattering to the silk and the cuffs have a few minor splits to black silk. There are some pulled gold threads to the front chest area and to the top of the shoulders. The back is very good with just a few isolated pulled threads. The blue silk ground is undamaged. The light blue ling has some light foxing and is a little dirty along the hem.
English School (19th century), Figures and cattle watering in an extensive landscape, a city distant , oil on relined canvas, signed indistinctly lower right , 19½ x 29½in. (49.5 x 75cm.)* Condition: Under ultra violet light examination, some spots of surface retouching and visible in various parts of the painting, mainly from match head down to pin head size. 2 patches towards the bottom left hand corner, 1/2 inch x 1/4 inch. in the tress are 2 larger patches. The second lower down a crescent shaped approx 1/2 inch with a few spots below and to the left of it .
An ivory and silver plated retractable comb, c.1900, 3 1/8in. (7.9cm.) long; together with an ivory and brass folding 12in. pocket rule; an ivorine Saynor hawkbill pocket knife; and a 19th century ivory handled fleam. (4)* Condition: - Comb: Small crack to one corner of ivory. Otherwise good.- Rule: Chip to ivory beside hinge and also a crack to same place on opposite side. Some rust showing to hinge parts - there is also some rust coloured discolouration to the ivory in places. - Saynor knife: Some scuffing to celluloid. Blade has some light rust tarnishing along edge of blade.- Fleam: Some tiny nicks to edge of blade. Small chips across end of handle.
Selosse, Louis - L'Ille de Serk, Un etat feodalau XXe siecle, pub. Lille, G. Sautai, 1928, limited edition 610/620, original paper covers.* The author, an advocate in Lille, died in the trenches 1914, this is his doctoral thesis, originally published in 1911 and re-issued by his sister.** Condition: Light foxing throughout, some pages still folded but uncut, very good condition.
A Chinese Canton carved ivory counter box, 19th century, circular with turn-off cover, carved with figures in a garden with mountains distant, the sides with houses amidst trees, containing a single mother of pearl counter, 1 5/8in. (4.1cm.) diameter; together with other Canton carved ivory games including a tangram qiqiaoban puzzle similar carved decoration, 2 1/8in. (5.4cm.) square; a three sphere puzzle ball seal; two dice shakers, a dice and a set of draughts / backgammon stones, red and natural stained. (22)* Condition: - Counter box: Four tiny frits to edge of cover. Otherwise good.- Tangram: Contains seven pieces. Very good condition with no faults.- Puzzle ball: Two small chips to edge of base. Otherwise good.- Shakers: Red example has light wear to colour. No other faults.- Draughts: Red set has some light wear to colour. Otherwise good.
A composite Georgian and Victorian canteen of silver fiddle thread pattern flatware, twelve place setting, various makers and dates, contained in a Victorian walnut three drawer canteen, with rebated brass handles to sides and two-door front, comprising 12 table forks, 12 table spoons, 12 dessert spoons, 12 dessert forks, 12 tea spoons, a soup ladle, a fish server, a basting spoon, a soup ladle, a sifter ladle and a butter knife; also including a 12 silver cake knives and forks, London 1922; and a set of 12 modern table knives and 12 modern dessert knives with stainless steel blades, gross weight 230 tr.oz., silver weight only 180 tr.oz.* Condition: Canteen well matched. 19th century pieces in good condition, with good marks and just light wear to bowls and tines. 20th century pieces in very good condition. Canteen in good condition - old polished-in marks and scratches as expected but overall good, with even colour and good polish. All handles original. With key - lock working.
A Chinese porcelain famille rose punch bowl, late 18th century, enamelled with peonies issuing from kakiemon blue rockwork, the interior with floral sprig and floral border below rim, 9½in. (24cm.) diameter, chip to foot; together with a pair of famille rose plates decorated in enamels with floral sprays and cranes in flight to the borders, 8 7/8in. (22.5cm.) diameter. (3)* Condition: - Punch bowl: 1.5 x 1cm. chip and tiny hairline to foot. Otherwise good with just light gilt wear to decoration.- Plates: Both with a few tiny glaze frits to rim. Otherwise good.

Some scratching to glass, tiny nick to edge of date magnifier and a few deep scratches at edge at 12. Case and bracelet has some light scratching and there are some scratches to the case back and a small nick from the milled edge. No box or papers. No service history.
Augustus Osborne Lamplough (British, 1877-1930), Arabs on camels with attendants crossing a desert ridge in the evening light , watercolour, signed 'a Lamplough A.R.A.' lower left, held in original cavetto frame with gilt and ebonised slip , 19¼ x 27in. (49 x 68.5cm.)* Condition: Watercolour in clean, bright condition overall - no fading and the paper is only very lightly time stained. No mount burn. A couple of small fox marks and one dark brown spot mark to left side of sky. Glass is dirty to inside and there is water marking and spotting to gilt overall on slip. Frame good with minor losses.
Dutch or Spanish School (18th century), Portrait of a gentleman with shoulder length hair, moustache and goatee, in a black coat with broad white collar, within an oval vignette , oil on canvas, in a good 18th century frame, remnants of label to frame verso from a Royal Academy Winter Exhibition , 22 x 18¼in. (56 x 46.5cm.)* Condition: Old (probably late 19th century) relining - coarser weave canvas visible to front than verso. Some bitumenisation to the darker areas of paint but it is not severe. Visible repaired tear to canvas to very top left corner and small patch repair visible just to left of hair in line with the eyes. A few small superficial scratches to the surface of the paint. Light craquelure to the paint in most areas but more significant craquelure to the right hand side of the face and to lower centre of canvas. Frame has old gold overpainting with original gilding beneath. Minor losses to gesso but overall good.Examined under UV: Not very helpful as a blocking varnish appears to have been used after any restoration was carried out. Small retouches visible to margins and one a little larger patch to lower right corner.
A rare WWII German Prison Administration Official's sword, the Degen (dress sword) by Eickhorn, the maker's mark on the blade of a squirrel holding a sword which forms the letter "I" in Eickhorn, with Original above and Solingen below, the hilt with gilt metal eagle pommel and gilt metal straight wing eagle/swastika to cross guard, black wire bound ivorine grip, black metal scabbard, gold braid portepee, overall length 37½in. (95.2cm.)* Condition: In very good condition with some light gilt rubbing to hilt and a little light surface rust in places to scabbard.
A Rolex Tudor Prince Oysterdate Mini-Sub gentleman's wrist watch, Ref. 73091, c.1995, 200m / 660ft, the signed champagne dial with gilt and cream dot numerals with arrows at the quarters, black Mercedes hands and date aperture at three, coin edge gold bezel with gold 60 minute diver's insert, gold Rolex signed screw-down crown, case back numbered 9440, on a two tone steel and gold plated bracelet with 6249 deployment clasp.* Condition: Winds and runs. Dial good. Glass has two edge chips and some scratches. Pale orange discoloured patch to bezel between 2 and 3. Case and bracelet has some light scratching and there is a curved scratch to edge of case back. Small ding to clasp. No case or papers. No service history.
A George III silver coffee pot, Thomas Parr II, London, 1741, plain body of baluster form, engraved to both sides, one with contemporary baroque coat of arms believed to be of 'General Thomas Moore' of family descent, the other with an armorial engraved with three leopard heads, with foliate and acanthus capped spout, carved ebony handle and hinged domed cover with knop finial, 8½in. (21.7cm.) high, gross weight 25.3 tr.oz.* Condition: Hallmarks have some rubbing but are legible. Maker's mark clear to base. Very light line indent to body through one armorial and one or two other very minor dings. Inner flange of lid has 0.75in. piece missing. Possible soldered repair to joint of hinge and lid.
A 1949 Chevrolet Deluxe front-end - wall art, the original 1949 Chevrolet Deluxe front-end in metallic mint green paint, for maximum impact the lights have been wired with socket for illumination (not tested), the front bumper sporting four car badges, AA badge; Behold St Christopher badge; Royal Air Force 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' badge and a Duke of Cornwall's light Infantry association badge, approximate overall length 70in. (178cm.).* Condition: The lights and chrome surrounds not original and not fixed in place (currently fixed with blu-tac). Electrics not tested but were working when removed from vendor's property. Some small paint chips and surface rust, overall good.

Arabic dial signed 'Chronométre Zenith', with outer 24 hour track and subsidiary seconds dial at six, the fob wound three quarter plate movement signed 'Zenith 2746679', the bevelled case signed with Zenith maker's mark, numbered 299269, Swiss Minerva head mark, case diameter 47mm.* Condition: Watch runs. A few tiny nicks to silvering on dial. Case very good with just light scratching and one tiny ding to edge of engine turned back. Movement very clean.

A Clarice Cliff for Wilkinson - Joan Shorter 'Kiddies Ware' Golly bowl, the rim moulded in high relief with a seated Golly holding spoons in each hand, decorated in enamels on red border, printed marks to base, 7¾in. (19.5cm.) diameter.* Condition: Light wear to enamels, no chips or cracks found.
An early William Moorcroft Pomegranate bowl, c1918, the circular bowl on a short, waisted foot, painted on a dark blue ground, impressed 'Moorcroft, Made in England, M 80' mark, together with painted green, William Moorcroft signature to base, 8in. (20.5cm.) diameter, 2¾in. (7cm.) high.* Condition: In fine condition with light grazing to base.
Henry Bright (British, 1814-1873), Fisherfolk and fishing boats on a beach at low tide , watercolour and pencil, heightened with white, in gilt and composition bead and husk frame , 9 7/8 x 14¼in. (25 x 36.2cm.)* Condition: Some light foxing to sky and some mould spotting across the sky. Colours good. Heavy foxing to mount. Minor losses to frame. Area of paint to left side of sky is thin, showing the paper beneath. Probably only apparent due to the later time staining to paper.

Both named to 6182 Cpl W Greenslade The Queens. British War & Victory medals named to 19923 Pte W J Greenslade Som LI. An Imperial Service Medal GV1, named to William J Greenslade. A 1934/35 dated safe driving medal, named to W J Greenslade. William Greenslade served in South Africa and was awarded the QSA with clasp Orange Free State, for service in the 2nd Battalion The Queens. He then served in India with the 1st Battalion from the 27th March 1902. A later list approves the Transvaal clasp award. 19923 William James Greenslade (act L/Cpl) served in the 4th Battalion (Territorial) Somerset Light Infantry, being placed on Class Z Reserve in 1919.

AN R WILSON FLINTLOCK PISTOL. A brass barrelled Flintlock Blunderbuss pistol, by Richard Wilson of London. Shown as working between 1730-1766, in the minories near the Tower of London. The 8" brass barrel with ringed muzzle, is struck at the breech with RW beneath a star also with London proofmarks. The steel lockplate signed Wilson, has a sliding safety catch with light engraving, The brass furniture has a devils mask buttplate, also foiliage decoration. Brass tipped ramrod with a worm drive, brass escutcheon plate inset in the grip, 14.1/2" overall length. Believed C1740 with 1702 proofmarks. See Illustration
A FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS BY WILLIAMS. A brass barrelled Flintlock Blunderbuss by Williams of London. A B Wilson is listed as making brass barrelled Flintlock Blunderbusses, between 1750-1780. Fullstocked with 13.3/4" flared barrel, steel lock with roller frizzen. Marked Williams on the action and London on the top of the barrel. Light engraving to the trigger-guard and buttplate. 29.1/2" overall length. See Illustration
A 19thC MAMELUKE SWORD & SCABBARD. Having ivory grips and steel mounts, steel and black leather mounted scabbard. The reversed quillions crossguard, with light engraving evident. Single-edged curved blade with three-quarter broad fuller, 31.1/4" length with Garden on the spine. Pierced design steel mounts to the scabbard, of decorative form. C1800. John Garden is listed as working 1793-1819 in 203 Piccadilly. London. His descendants carried on the company until 1890. See Illustration
A DLI/MGC OFFICERS GT WAR PAIR. British War & Victory medal pair, named to Captain A Noall. Alexander Noall was serving as 7/1157 in the Durham Light Infantry, when he was commissioned as a 2/Lt MGC in August 1915, later Lieutenant and A/Capt MGC. He served in France from 19th November 1916, later in Mesopotamia with the 274th Coy MGC. He was 'wounded' accidentally by a sentries bayonet, when returning to the trenches 11/2/1917. Listed as 4th London Field Hospital 2/3/1917 Born in 1891 he was residing at 48 St Marks Road, Sunderland a practising Schoolmaster. With copied paperwork.
A FIRST PATTERN WILKINSON COMMANDO DAGGER. Marked at the ricasso on one side of the blade blade, Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd London. On the other face is The F-S Fighting Knife. Reverse swept crossguard in the earlier heavy metal, with knurled cheaquered grip. The blade of some 6.5/8" in the double-edged style, with some light staining evident. The sheath of brown leather with Newey pop-stud present, the frog is lacking one one side. The wings have been removed, from the sheath by the wearer during the war. See Illustration
A BLUNDERBUSS PISTOL WITH TOP-SPRUNG BAYONET by TWIGG. A brass barrelled Blunderbuss pistol by John Fox Twigg of London. He was noted as working between as a Gunmaker between, 1755-1790. 8" flared barrel with heavily re-inforced muzzle-rings, the breech stamped with old Birmingham proofmarks, for pre 1800. (Crossed sceptres surmounted by Crowns.) Brass furniture with light decoration, steel action with sliding safety lock 'Twigg'. On the octagonal/round barrel top is London, with affixed sprung 5" bayonet. See Illustration
A CIVILIAN KATANA. A Katana in civilian mounts, with the signature Kane Yoshi (made this) three character signatue to the tang. The Tsuba of iron with both slots filled, the Menuki of Tachi form. Black cord bindings with non-matching Fuchi and Kashira, The 27.1/2" blade is fitted with a copper habaki , with light staining. The Saya is of a dark wooden base, decorated with gilt patterns and worn off in places. See Illustration
The medals of Lt Col Philby SLI THE MEDALS OF LT COL O G B PHILBY SLI & HIS PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM. A 1914 Star and bar, named to Lt O G B Philby S L I. British War & Victory Medals, named to Capt O G B Philby. A France & Germany Star, Defence & War medals, unnamed as issued. A 1937 Coronation medal, the seven mounted for wear. A fine Photograph Album of his between wars postings, starting in Hong Kong in 1929. Consisting of some 240 photographs or original postcards, of Kowloon, Perak, Columbo, Horses, people and Typhoon damage, etc. Born into the family of the Reverend Jas and Mrs Jenny Euphemia Philby, at Dulverton Vicarage. Educated at Blundells School between 1900 and 1908, Head boy and a gifted Sportsman. He was in the Cricket X1 and the Rugby XV, excelling at sports throughout his life. As a Rugby Scrum half or a Hockey Centre-Forward, etc. Then onto Sandhurst and a commission into the Somerset Light Infantry in 1910. He landed with his battalion in France 22nd/23rd August, expecting a rest in billets. Immediately they were ordered into the Front Line, which was under a massive German assault. Arriving at Briastre on the 24th, north of them and approaching nearer to them was smoke from the fires of captured farms and villages. Ordered to act as rearguard for the troops retreating from Mons, position was taken up in the Ligny area. On the 26th August Lt Philby was wounded in the leg, the retreat again resumed. He fought through the Battles of Le Cateau, The Marne and The Aisne. He was captured probably during the abortive German Attacks, of the 25/26/27/28th September with several other SLI officers. After over three years in a Prisoner of War camp, he was interned in Holland from January 1918. Repatriated to England in November (18th) 1918. He had been promoted to Captain in 1916, then served as a Staff Officer in 1919. With photocopied details of a letter printed in the Bath Herald, October 3rd 1914 wriiten by the then Major Prowse. Later LT Col CB. His narrative is precise and honest, in it he mentions Lt Philby. he describes the action against the German Guards. Philby though wounded three times, walked out to the retreat as cool as you like. Between the wars he saw service with his Battalion, in several overseas postings. Including N Ireland, Egypt, Gibraltar, India and the Far East, lastly in N W Europe. He was Adjutant of the Regiment between 1925-28. Commanding the 2nd Battalion SLI 1937-1940. Awarded the France & Germany Star, Defence & War medals, for his service in the North West Europe Campaign 1944-45. A son of Exmoor who truly took to military life, always considerate with his men. He loved to play any sports in the army, never losing his love of horses. Always ready to show his men by deed, how the job should be done especially relating to Machine Guns. Retiring from the army he returned to his beloved Exmoor, supporting hunts and local shows, etc. Having married his wife Pamela in 1942, the daughter of Brig Gen H W Cobham DSO Indian Army. They had two daughters and passed onto them, their love of Exmoor.
