Late 19th century, obsolete calibre, breech loading Martini Henry carbine style rifle.Lever action with falling block.No discernible dates or proof marks.The rifle has been fitted with low grade Indian silver mounts, including a wire bound grip to the stock.Size: Overall length 92.5cm, barrel length 48..5cm.Condition: It’s likely that the rifle is a marriage of parts from different firearms.The wooden parts differ in colour and patina.The lever mechanism has jammed, and it would likely require a strip down to free it.The steel elements have a light surface rust coating.

A scarce 19th century circa 1880 Anglo-Afghan War era swagger stick, named to a Victoria Cross winner; Captain William Vousden (1848-1902).With a fine quality polished rosewood shaft, and a brass pommel and tip.The circumference of the pommel is engraved: Captain W.J.Vousden V.C.The top of the pommel also has a repousee tigers head.Captain, and later Major-General William John Vousden was a Scottish born officer of the Bengal Staff Corps.He gained his Captaincy in 1876, and was later promoted to Major in 1884.While serving with the 5th Punjab Cavalry, the following act of bravery occured on the Koh Asmai Heights near Kabul, Afghanistan:For the exceptional gallantry displayed by him on the 14th December 1879, on the Koh Asmai Heights near Kabul, in charging, with a small party, into the centre of the line of Kohistini force, by whom they were greatly outnumbered, and who did their utmost to close round them. After rapidly charging through and through the enemy, backwards and forwards, several times, they swept off round the opposite side of the village and joined the rest of the Troop.Size: approximately 57cm length.Condition: good colour and patina throughout - light contact marks to the metal fittings.

Victoria Cross Interest - a late Victorian era, sterling silver travelling communion set, comprising of a chalice, paten and water/oil bottle.Hallmarked for London 1894 by John Newton Mappin (Mappin & Webb).Complete with original velvet and satin lined leather case.Affixed to to the lid of the box is brass cross pattee, and a hand engraved plaque which reads: In the service of God and King, Padre W.R.F. Addison V.C.William Robert Fountaine Addison (1883-1962) volunteered for the Army Chaplain Department at the outbreak of WW1.His Victoria Cross was won on April 9th 1916 at Sanna-i-Yat, Mesopotamia.His V.C. citation reads:He carried a wounded man to the cover of a trench, assisted others to the same cover, after binding up their wounds under heavy rifle and machine gun fire.In addition to these unaided efforts, by his splendid example and utter disregard of personal danger, he encouraged the stretcher-bearers to go forward under heavy fire and collect the wounded.Size: case measures 13.5cm x 12cm x 8.3cm.Conditon: very good - no damage to the silver or glass parts of the set, just normal signs of light use.The leather case is in good order, with only light signs of use.Notes: the engraved plaque appears to be of the period (circa WW1), and would of been later applied to the Victorian era case.All silver pieces carry matched hallmarks.
