Christian Rohlfs Beratung. Orig.-Farbholzschnitt in Türkisblau. In der Darstellung signiert. Im Stock kaum erkennbar monogrammiert. 1913. Auf kartonartigem Papier. 36,4 : 26,7 cm. Papierformat 36,6 : 27 cm. Rauch). 'Maillol had been commissioned by Philippe Gonin to illustrate Virgil's Géorgiques .. which finally saw the light of day in two volumes in 1950. He designed more than a hundred woodcuts, including initial letters. In point of fact Count Kessler had intended the book to be a sequel to the Eclogues (1926) published in Germany, but it was finally left to Gonin to persuade Maillol to complete the illustrations which he had done by 1943 .. the majority of the woodcuts were 'executed by craftsmen after Maillol's drawings on the blocks, since at that time his eyes were not strong enough for the cutting'.' - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 122 Orig.-Holzschnitten von A.
