He specialised in watercolours and drawing, but especially in lithography, creating limited edition lithographs drawn by hand on stone and printed on his own Victorian press. He worked in a realistic style that showed his fine draughtsmanship, choosing a wide range of subjects, including a number of Cambridge scenes, some of which were commissioned by the Colleges, others chosen as an opportunity to explore form and light. He exhibited mainly in London and East Anglia and has work in the Government Collection as well as in private collections around the world.

IN THE MANNER OFJOHN FREDERICK HERRING JR (1820-1907); large oil on canvas, rural scene with horses, pigs and ducks beside barns, signed, 59 x 84cm, framed.Provenance: detailed on the vendor's grandfather's inventory of chattels, produced in 1934, and has remained in the family ever since. CONDITION REPORT: The signature is lower centre and just above this is a three centimetre tear to the canvas, the left hand horse has a tear through the leg approx 3 x 1cm, there is also an old repair to top left hand corner which has a visible repair from the back, otherwise light surface wear.

A mid-19th century German Gothic Revival KPM porcelain and carved oak triptych after Stefan Lochner (circa 1400-1451), surmounted by a cross, flanked to each side by foliate finials, on pierced foliate back plate, centred by two cupboard doors, each decorated with fleur de lys, scrolling foliage and arcades, centred by a cross, revealing three plaques depicting Virgin Mary to the centre, Saint Ursula to the left and Saint Gereon to the right, each plaque impressed KPM, on a stepped spreading base supported by a wall bracket with pierced roundel frieze above scrolling foliage, 143 x 79 x 16cm. CONDITION REPORT: The Plaques - Minor surface wear with very light vertical surface scratches to the extreme left and right of the main central plaque. No damage or repair to the plaques. The Frame - Comes in 3 sections and slots together. One finial has been broken off but is present, one other is loose. Overall in remarkably good condition given the fragile nature of the detail.

A Royal Worcester blush ivory floral decorated twin handled vase of globular form with slender tapering neck, raised on spreading circular foot, marked in puce to base, date code for 1897, number 784, height 18cm, a similar white glazed ewer, number 783 and a floral transfer decorated bowl registered number 115187 (3). CONDITION REPORT: The bush ivory vase with rubbing to the gilt and surface dirt, the ewer appears to be in good condition apart from a few areas of glazing imperfections (pitting), the bowl in good condition apart from wear to the inside (scratches) all with no traces of damage or restoration when examined under the UV light.

CONDITION REPORT: There are no obvious traces of restoration when inspected under the UV light, areas of losses to the encrusted bunch of flowers, a few areas of losses to fine fringing to the scarf and sleeves, chip to the edge of the gentleman's coat (corner) majority visible to underneath, areas of rubbing or minor flaking to the paint and some rubbing to the gilt, some surface dirt commensurate with age.
A Meissen porcelain figure of Cupid trapped in snares, on a floral mould decorated circular base and integral marble gilt heightened pedestal, marked to underneath, impressed numbers 102, inscribed 19, height 19cm. CONDITION REPORT: Generally in good condition without any major traces of restoration when inspected under UV light, a few areas of tiny losses to the encrusted bunch of flowers held in left hand and a small loss to the little finger of the same hand, minor surface wear and dirt underneath of the base.
A 19th century German porcelain figure group of a lady and gentleman playing cards on shaped naturalistic foliate scroll gilt heightened base, marked to underneath, length 24cm. CONDITION REPORT: The figure group is generally in good condition with no obvious traces of restoration when inspected under the UV light, general minor surface wear and dirt commensurate with age, a small nibble to the edge of the table, a few tiny chips to outside rim of the base, one larger and a major chip to inside edge of underneath of the base which does not effect the appearance of the item.
A pair of 19th century French porcelain figure groups modelled after Chardin, 'Good Education' and 'A Reprimand', each marked and inscribed beneath oval base, possibly La Courtille, length 16cm and 16.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: The mark of two crossed arrows with feather, the 'Good Education' figure group with back of the chair broken off and reglued, areas with minor fritting to girls bonnet and a smaller area to the woman's' bonnet, both figure groups with minor areas of flaking to the paint, rubbing to the gilt and some surface wear particularly to edge of underneath of the base, both without obvious traces of damage or restoration when inspected under the UV light.
A Chinese Republic period hand painted porcelain plaque depicting figures in a boat, signed, mounted within an elaborate pierced screen, height 69cm, width 45cm. CONDITION REPORT: The front left hand carved "wing" is losse and the bracket pin that keeps it in place is missing. Light surface scratches throughout and rubbing in parts with the detail lacking.
A large Chinese porcelain wucai decorated jar with six lug handles, painted in enamels with two opposing floral panels on a geometrical ground within two decorative borders, unmarked, height 30cm, with an associated cover with Dog of Fo finial. CONDITION REPORT: Areas of chips to some of the lug handles, general surface dirt and minor wear commensurate with age, some flaking to the paint, odd areas of firing imperfections and some scratches. Hairline crack to one side of the lower part, visible both to the inside and outside, otherwise appears good with no further obvious faults, damage or restoration when inspected under UV light, the finial is broken and the lid associated. there are surface chips to two of the raised knops with some surface scratches and paint loss.

CONDITION REPORT: There is some surface tarnishing and light surface scratches.

CONDITION REPORT: Chips to glass interior, the lid closes tightly, there are some dents to the rim with light surface wear.
WILLIAM NEALE; a Victorian hallmarked silver combination sovereign case/vesta case with toothpick and propelling pencil, overall engraved with foliate scrolls, with shaped vacant cartouche to one side, Chester 1895, 6 x 4cm, approx 1.4ozt. CONDITION REPORT: The action is slightly sprung, the finial of the pencil is missing, the toothpick handle with traces of repair, there are also light surface scratches.
