This is the first state with only 4 plates as called for on the cover and plates unnumbered. WorldCat lists only one copy of the Tauchnitz edition (Hamburg University Library) and that contains only 5 of the 7 plates.

It was first published in 1630 and translated into English in 1632 by Edward Grimestone, who dedicated it to Richard Hubert, a courtier and Groom-Porter to Charles I. There were several 17th century editions, all of which are scarce; Library Hub lists one copy only dated 1639 (Wadham College, Oxford) but this has a different imprint.Faret (1596-1646) was one of the founder members of the Académie Française and the first occupant of seat number nine.
