RARE STAFFORDSHIRE 'DANDY-HORSE' & 'ACCELERATOR' CANARY YELLOW PRINTED JUG, c.1820, foliate painted neck above titled scenes 'A Visit From Richmond to Carlton House' depicting a lady and gentleman riding a dandy-horse and 'The Lady's Accelerator' depicting a lady driving a Pilentum or accelerator (horseless buggy), pink lustre rim, 13.5 cms h. Provenance: Private collection (West Wales) Auctioneer's Note: For camparisons, see Bonhams 10.8.07 lot 115 and Pitt Rivers Museum no. 1897.69.8 for similaryly printed nursery plates. Alison Petch writes: The image on the plate refers to George Augustus Frederick of Hanover, (1762-1830), known as the Prince Regent and later George IV, whose residence was Carlton House until 1820 when he ascended the throne. He is the best known resident in the house and the timescale fits (dandy horses were popular just before 1820 when he was Prince Regent and still resident in Carlton House). The Prince Regent was probably the ultimate dandy of the time. Carlton House was an opulent residence, which could be called a palace when the Price Regent was living there so lavish was its decoration. The house was demolished in 1825 and replaced by Carlton House Terrace. The reference to Richmond refers to Maria Anne Fitzherbert (1756-1837). She was married to the future George IV in 1785 (her third marriage), but this marriage was considered invalid under the Royal Marriages Act of 1772 because it had not been approved by George III, his father. In any case, it would not have been possible to marry as she was a Roman Catholic. The relationship lasted until 1811. Maria Fitzherbert was known as the Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill. The jug is therefore a light-hearted political commentary about the scandal of their marriage and on-going relationship. The dandy horse may have been specifically chosen, not only to link George IV and Maria Fitzherbert on the same machine, but also because its name was synonymous with the high living of the early nineteenth century, which the Prince Regent epitomised. Comments: small chip to side of spout, hairline to neck beside handle, lustre slightly worn, some scattered enamel chips.

1997 Volvo 940 Celebration EstateMake: Volvo Model: 940 Celebration Year: 1997Mileage: 81565VIN: YV1945811W1229537Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: R790PNNTransmission: manualThe 940 Celebration was a last-of-the-line model built to mark the passing of Volvo's traditional rear-wheel drive big four-cylinder estates, as the marque switched to front-wheel drive. Only available in estate form and with a host of extra equipment, it cost a hefty £18,425 on the road. Powered by the 2.3-litre light pressure turbo engine, the spec featured metallic paint, colour co-ordinated bumpers, sports grille, roof rails and 15-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there was half-leather upholstery, wood trim, air conditioning, front and rear electric windows, leather steering wheel, RDS radio cassette player, headlamp wash/wipers, ABS brakes, electrically-heated front seats and adjustable door mirrors. This example, in Blackberry Metallic with black cloth/grey leather interior, was registered in November 1997. Its odometer shows 81,565 miles (which is largely confirmed by the available history), and it has had three former keepers. Its MoT has only recently expired, in October of this year. Aside from the current V5C, the paperwork includes the original Volvo booklet wallet, with owner's manual, service book (stamped up 76,102 miles in 2014) and dealer network guide. The selection of invoices date from the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, as do the pair of MoT certificates. The Volvo's interior is in very good order; with little wear to the seats, nice wood, and no lifting of the vinyl covering on the door cappings (which often affects 900-series cars). Ripspeed tread plates are fitted in the door apertures, The exterior displays stone chips on the bonnet, and there are also areas of wear and flatness in the paint. Corrosion is evident on the nearside door mirror base and offside front wheel arch, which is holed. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 7TH OCTOBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.

The paperwork file includes an MoT certificate from April 2008, as well as details of the test failure in July 2021, with major defects being listed as: nearside front brake hose excessively damaged, rear shock absorber having negligible damping, headlamp aim too low, rear position lamp light intensity significantly reduced, and front brake disc contaminated. Advisories are for the front tyre with small cracks on the sidewall, the front brake disc worn but not excessively, and the offside front shock absorber having a light misting of oil. Fitted with a later sunroof and the headlining requires attention. It appears to have done little mileage over many years. 1974 Ford Escort RS 2000Make: Ford Model: Escort RS 2000Year: 1974Mileage: 0VIN: BFATPU00032Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GKM148NTransmission: manualUnlike the Anglia before it, the Ford Escort was available in several sporty performance forms, such as the Twin-Cam, RS1600, Mexico and RS2000. The latter, as here, had a 100bhp 1993cc overhead-cam Pinto engine and offered 100mph performance plus a lot of rear-wheel drive fun in a quite compact package. It was almost as fast as the more complicated RS1600 but as easy to look after and maintain as the Mexico, with which it shared its bodyshell. The car was launched in England on 11 October 1973 priced at £1586. This particular Escort RS2000 is an original, UK-supplied right-hand drive car delivered registered on 5 November 1974, finished in Stardust Silver with black with Charcoal cloth interior and polished wood dash inserts. After a series of owners, it had a period of over 10 years in storage in the early 2000s, after which it was partially restored, with a view to preservation rather than renewing. New old-stock front wings and a bonnet were sourced and fitted, and there was some paintwork. The original bumpers and rear light surrounds were re-chromed, the front and rear seats re-upholstered and the brake callipers overhauled and refitted. The history folder contains the V5C (noting 11 former registered keepers), an original sales brochure, assorted invoices (with several from around 2015 when the renovation work seems to have taken place), service book (but only with two stamps, up to 7136 miles in 1975), owner's manual, workshop manual supplement, tax discs from 1976 to 1998, and MoTs from 1989 to 1991, 1993, 1996 to 1997, 2006 and 2015. The odometer reading is 80,496 miles. Externally, the car is in very good order, albeit it with its rear RS2000 badge missing. The interior is also good, although the driver's sun visor is absent, the choke cable is loose and hanging down, the clock doesn't appear to be working, and some of the grey switches exhibit some mottling. A bonus fitment is the period Pioneer tape deck. The car seems to have spent some years unused, and so will therefore need some recommissioning to be returned to the road. Ford Focus BTCC Race CarMake: FordModel: FocusYear: 0Mileage: 0VIN: Contact AuctioneerConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: Contact AucitoneerTransmission: manualOur vendor, and ex BTTC driver has provided us with the following narrative: Built by GR Motorsport in 2000 as a production BTCC car. GR Motorsport ran four of these cars, winning the production BTTC team championship. Matt Jackson, Gareth Howell and Rick Kraemer raced the other cars but Richard Meins raced this one, except at Knockhill where Gordon Shedden ran it in his BTTC debut, getting a first and second in class and 5th overall. He is now a three times BTTC Champion and current driver. Purchased four years ago in parts, once its history was unearthed it was restored back to its original colour scheme and Scholar Race Engines rebuilt the engine. The car will require light recommissioning before being used, he believes it to be potentially eligible for the Silverstone Classic and Super Tourers. Further research leads him to believe that the car raced in Macau on three occasions. The original build cost for each of the cars was close to £100,000 back in 2000

1985 Mazda RX-7 FBMake: Mazda Model: RX7Year: 1985Mileage: 67785VIN: JMZFB131200702776Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: B30WFJTransmission: manualMazda's RX-7 was the model that brought the Wankel rotary engine to widespread acceptance, being produced over three generations from 1978 to 2002. The sleek and sculptured first generation cars, running through to 1985, are the most desirable models among classic Japanese enthusiasts. The vendor believes that this is 'almost certainly the best UK right-hand drive Mazda RX-7 in existence', and, after a total restoration including an engine rebuild, its condition is certainly excellent, inside and out. In fact, virtually the only exterior flaw is some light cracking to the rear polyurethane spoiler, while the red/brown interior has virtually no flaws. During an extended road test for Classic Car Weekly - which will be featuring the car before it is auctioned - the RX-7 also drove extremely well, with a delightfully rorty exhaust note. The history folder is almost as superbly presented as the car; a large leather folder with everything organised in clear folders. It contains the history of the car from 1990, when it was acquired from a Mazda main dealer with 59,000 miles on the clock. That owner reputedly kept it in a heated garage but used it sparingly for days out and shows. There's lots of paperwork from his time with the car. When the car was sold in 2014, the next owner had the wheels professionally refurbished, before it went to a new keeper. An investigation to find out why there was excessive smoke resulted in the engine being rebuilt again, at 67,780 miles in December 2020. At the same time, a new clutch was fitted, the carburettor was stripped and rebuilt, items in the engine bay were powder-coated, the brakes were dismantled to resolve some binding and a Racing Beat stainless steel exhaust was fitted. The cost of this came to £4750. There was a rebuild and repaint around the same time (although the £6485 estimate for this reads 2010, we think this is a typing error as it is addressed to the owner who only bought the car in 2019, and there is further correspondence and pictures showing the work being done during December 2020). Four new Nankang Sportnex tyres were fitted in April 2021. Other invoices in the file date back to the 1980s; this is a vehicle that has had many thousands spent on it, There are also current and previous V5Cs, two sets of spare keys, a Mazda-branded full car cover, tax discs from 2004, 2011 and 2012, document wallet with owner's handbook and stamped service booklet, a range brochure, and MoT certificates from 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010. The current MoT is valid until February 2022 and the present mileage is 67,785.
