An early Victorian 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's sword by [John?] Lilly, London, regulation steel hilt with side loop, knuckle bow and two sidebars, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wire bound fishskin grip, the 34" inch pipe-backed blade marked to forte 'LILLY MAKER LONDON' and etched with crowned VR cypher and wreath, housed in leather-clad scabbard with metal mounts (some rust)Condition:One third of the blade is etched but only one side really remains visible due to the rust. There is crown over royal cypher and foliate scrolling motifs but no sign of any other marks or personalisation. Please see images.
China War Medal 1900, impressed naming to "G.W. CHILDS PTE, R.M.L.I" Naval Medal Award rolls show George William Childs (CH/10633, Royal Marine Light Infantry) was at North West Fort Taku from 30th June 1900 - March 1901, following the Battle of the Taku Forts. Childs was born on 13th June 1869 and first enlisted on 13th July 1889. His earlier service included on HMS Indu, Bellerophon and Comus before re-joining in September 1899.

Medal pair - Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908 medal, 1 clasp, Khartoum, awarded to "4224 PTE. W. CARR 5TH FUSRS", engraving naming; together with Queen's Sudan Medal, unnamed as issued. (2)William Henry Carr (b. 1875) 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Entitlements are confirmed on medal rolls/military history sheets. Carr was previously with the 4th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, before joining the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1894. His statement of services shows that Carr was convicted of desertion in 1895 and had all prior service disqualified; he returned to duty after being released from prison in August 1895 and had his forfeited service restored in 1901. Beyond the Sudan Expedition, Carr's other active service was the Occupation of Crete 1898 and the Boer War 1899-1900, 1900-1901. He was discharged in June 1906.
