DON RENDELL IAN CARR QUINTET - SHADES OF BLUE LP (ORIGINAL UK COPY - COLUMBIA 33SX 1733). Grail time for British and worldwide Jazz collectors alike with the iconic, beautiful 1965 Shades Of Blue LP introducing the Don Rendell/Ian Carr quintet. The record (original black/blue Columbia label design, 33SX 1733) is in wonderful Ex+ condition. A superb example, there are only a couple of extremely minor, faint and rather wispy paper hairline marks to the fantastically clean playing surfaces. Sharp and clean labels (KT tax code to side 1) showing only minor spindle marks. Matrix (machine stamped): XAX 2770-1U & XAX 2771-1U. The original flipback design sleeve is in well presented VG+ condition showing some minor and light creasing though absolutely no rips, tears or seam slpits and with the spine neat, sharp and fully legible.

Labels are bright and legible, with only minor spindle wear around the centre holes. 1Y1/ 2Y1 matrix. The record is in glossy condition, side 1 is VG condition, has some light light paper surface marks including a couple of hairline but feelable marks. Side 2 is nice VG+. The laminated sleeve is VG condition, has some storage wear to the right end of the top edge, covers are a little grubby but would likely clean up with a wipe).

MONDAY NIGHT AT BIRDLAND LP (MOBLEY/MORGAN/FULLER/ROOT) - ORIGINAL UK PRESSING (COLUMBIA 33SX 1160). Introducing Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller and Billy Root with this rather scarce original UK 1959 LP of Monday Night At Birdland. The record (33SX 1160) is in glossy VG+ condition with some light surface marks/scuffs though no heavier feelable scratches. The sleeve is in solid VG condition - largely in lovely order, with roughly half the bottom edge has a seam split. The reverse flipback tabs in very clean condition with the spine sharp and fully legible.

THE MIKE TAYLOR TRIO - TRIO LP (ORIGINAL UK MONO COPY - COLUMBIA SX 6137). A fantastic British Jazz rarity with this exceedingly scarce original 1967 LP from The Mike Taylor Trio. Introducing Jack Bruce, Ron Rubin and John Hiseman, this copy is believed to be owned by original bass player Ronald Rubin and is signed to the top of the reverse sleeve. The record (original black/blue Columbia labels. mono SX 6137) is in very fine Ex condition showing only a couple of very light and minor surface hairline marks to the lustrous and glossy playing surfaces where there are absolutely no heavier feelable scratches. Matrix (machine stamped): XAX 3325-1U & XAX 3326-1U with KT tax code to side 1. The original mono flipback design sleeve is in neat VG+ condition showing a few light creases to the front laminate and a little red pen to the reverse. Appearing to have been annotated by Ronald Rubin on the tracks where he and Jack Bruce had been playing. Without any rips, tears or seam splits and with the spine in clean, fully legible order. A lovely example.

FREDDIE HUBBARD - BREAKING POINT LP (OG - BLUE NOTE 4172). A gorgeous, original copy of Breaking Point by Trumpet wielding cool cat Freddie Hubbard. The record (BLP4172, deep groove side 1, 'VAN GELDER' machine stamped, 'New York USA' on labels) is in strong VG+ condition with some light scuffs/ hairline marks. The labels are clean. The sleeve (OG, 43 West 61st St., New York) is in Ex condition with minor wear to the corners and some slight storage-related discolouration to the reverse.
Military interest - 1950s photograph album charting British military presence in Cyprus, with associated paper documents relating to operations and instructions; together with a collection of military ephemera and collectibles, most of Durham Light Infantry interest, including: three crested plates; vinyl records; books; First Day Covers; and other items.
A 19th century 1855 pattern Imperial Prussian Faschinenmesser Fascine Knife / short sword or Pioneer’s sword. Brass cross guard with curled quillon, solid brass ribbed grip, backpiece and pommel. Steel single edged blade, with flat spine. Complete with original matched leather scabbard, with brass fittings. Notes: the blade is marked PDL for Peter D Luneschloss. Both the cross guard and brass throat on the scabbard are identically marked 12.A.F.7.18. Approximately 65.5cm in the scabbard - blade length 47.7cm. Condition: generally good, with service wear. Brass hilt is good, with light service wear. Blade has darkened in places, with pitting near the near the tip. The scabbard is complete, but the leather is a little dry, and the brass chape is dented.
An early 19th century French 1817 pattern Sabre Briquet. German made blade, stamped Klingenthal to the spine. Cast brass handle, with D shaped knuckle guard, 28 ribbed grip, and curled over quillon. Slightly curved steel singled edged blade, un-fullered, with flat spine. Complete with original polished leather scabbard with brass fittings. Other than the blade makers name to the spine, there appears to be no other marks. Approximately 73cm in the scabbard, blade length 57cm. Condition: generally good. Normal light service wear to the brass handle, plus some light track marks and scratching to the blade. The leather scabbard has a good colour and patina, and the brass fittings are complete, but have some dents. The brass throat with the frog stud is a little wobbly on the leather, due to the tack or staple missing.
Scarce WW1 German Mauser ersatz bayonet. All steel construction, with push button release catch on the pommel. Single edged steel blade with fuller to both sides. The cross guard has the distinctive open muzzle ring, which allowed to be used on captured French Lebel or Russian Mosin-Nagant rifles. Complete with steel scabbard and leather frog, the latter dated 1931. The bayonet appears to be undated, but there is a faint inspection stamp to the spine of the blade. Approximately 47cm length including scabbard and frog. Condition: generally good. Patination to the metal throughout, commensurate with age and service wear. Some very light surface corrosion to the scabbard in places. Leather frog is good condition.
A 19th century kris, likely Malaysian in origin. Carved hardwood handle with gilt brass mount. Steel blade house in a repousee silver mounted scabbard. Approximately 43cm length when in scabbard. Condition: handle at fault. The handle has a large chip to the extremity, likely to have happened some time ago judging by the colour. There is also a crack running along half the length. The gilt brass mount also has a couple of petals missing from the The blade has darkened and there is some pitting. The silver mounted scabbard has some light denting and a small split to the seam at the edge.
An early type SS honour dagger by Gottlieb Hammesfahr, with scarce leather vertical dagger hanger by Assmann & Sohne. Early anodised scabbard with nickel fitting. Double edged blade, with motto etched to one side, and the makers mark to the other side. One piece wooden handle, with inset national eagle and SS motif. Dark brown leather belt hanger with nickel fitting, marked A for Assmann and DRGM. Approximately 37cm length. Condition: generally very good. The blade is clean and bright, with just the usual track marks from the scabbard. Both the motto and makers mark are clear and well defined. The wooden grip is damage free and shows only minor contact marks. The scabbard shows light wear to the anodised surface and just a very minor dent to one side. There is a split to the nickel ball chape. The leather hanger shows only normal service wear and is free from splits and other damage.
An American P1914 bayonet, with makers mark for Remington and 1917 date at the ricasso. Wooden slab grips with usual double grooves to each side. Blued pommel, cross guard and ricasso area. Single edged blade with fuller to both sides. Black leather scabbards with steel throat and chape, the throat stamped RE. Approximately 57.5cm when in scabbard. Condition: generally very good. Much of the blueing still present to the hilt. Service wear to the scabbard, with crease to the leather part. Wooden grips intact, blade good with light track marks to the surface from the scabbard.
A Hitler Youth style scout knife, with associated scabbard. The knife closely matches the earlier Hitler Youth knife seen up until the end of WW2, the one difference being the HJ diamond set into the grip being replaced with the traditional scout motif of the fleur-de-lis. Nickel plated pommel and cross guard and chequered plastic grips. Steel blade marked C.JUL.HERBBERTZ SOLINGEN at the ricasso. Black painted magnetic steel scabbard leather belt loop and retaining strap. Notes: it’s possible that the knife is made up from parts dating from the WW2 era, and the manufacturer of the item was known to have produced HJ knives. The non lipped scabbard is consistent with pre-1945 style scabbards. Overstocks of knives often had their HJ diamond badges popped out and replaced by scout badges. Approximately 25.2cm length when in scabbard. Condition: generally very good. Wear to the nickel surface in the usual area on the pommel (under the leather retaining strap). Some wear / dulling to the nickel plating in other areas. Scabbard is very good condition, with matt paint finish (possibly factory repainted). Blade, grips and leather strap are good and show only light wear.
German WW1 K98 bayonet with scabbard and frog. Wooden slab grips, with steel flash guard, pommel and cross guard, the latter with push button release catch. Steel blade with single edge and fuller to each side. Maker marked for Gottlieb Hammesfahr, Solingen Foche. Issue stamp W16 to spine of blade, indicating an issue date of 1916. Approximately 41.5cm length including scabbard and frog. Condition: generally good. Service wear and darkening to steel elements. Some light knocks to the wooden grips. Blade is good, as is the scabbard and frog.
A 19th century, or possibly earlier Chinese Pudao or ‘horse cutter’ broadsword. Stained wooden shaft with iron ring finial, set upon a brass pommel. 2 brass collars set one third and two thirds along the shaft. The shaft is also set with brass flower motifs to both sides. A further brass socket with cast brass cross guard, leading to a pierced brass ricasso. Steel blade with slight upturned tip. No apparent marks to the item. Approximately 77 inches / 196cm total length. Blade length 78cm - shaft length 118cm. Condition: generally good. Some age related and service wear. Some knock and indentations to the brass parts. Light wear to the darkened finish of the wooden shaft. There are some shrinkage cracks to the wood on the shaft, but it remains solid. The blade is darkened with age and has an all over lightly pitted finish. Notes: given the nature of the item and its size, pick up of the item is strongly recommended.
A WW2 era US M3 fighting / trench knife. 17cm carbon steel blade and cross guard, with partial original parkerised finish, singled edge with partial short secondary edge. Usual angled cross guard to act as a thumb rest, marked USM3 Imperial. Grooved leather handle with flattened metal pommel, the latter marked with a flaming grenade issue mark. 29.5cm total length. Condition: very good. Keen edge to the blade, still retaining much of the finish. Good colour and patina to the leather handle, with normal light service wear. The knife is minus its scabbard.
WW2 German Luftwaffe officers dress dagger, with hanging straps and portapee. Orange celluloid grip with twisted wire binding, nickel plated pommel with oak leaf and swastika detail. Usual cross guard with Luftwaffe eagle and swastika. Pebbled scabbard, with oak leaf patterned chape and bands. Double edged blade with no visible makers mark. Silver braided straps with brown velvet backing, plus silver braided portapee. Notes: the scabbard is engraved with the word or name ‘Regula’. Overall length 42cm, blade length 25cm. Condition: generally very good. There is a small amount of the celluloid grip missing near the pommel, but the wire binding is fully intact. The scabbard is good, with light wear to the pebbled finish, and some age related darkening to the metal in places. The blade is clean and bright, and free of any damage. Both the straps and portapee show light service wear to the fabric and threads, but are generally very good.
An 1821 pattern light cavalry officers sword by Pulford & Co, London. Shagreen grip with wire binding, chequered pommel and 3 bar steel guard. Single edged slightly curved blade with flat spine, short section near tip becoming double edged. Leather washer at the ricasso, plus proof mark and and makers mark. Profusely etched decoration, and the VR monogram and crown to both sides. One side also has a family crest and what appears to be initials GMC. Complete with original leather sword knot, and black painted scabbard with two suspension rings. Approximately 101cm in scabbard - blade length 81cm. Condition: generally good, with service wear. Shagreen grips intact, but loss of wire binding to part of the grip. The steel parts of the guard have darkened over time, and there is some mottling and darker patches here and there. The blade is in good order, with similar areas of mottling and darkening. The etching has rubbed in places, resulting in a loss of detail. Scabbard shows a small dent to one side, and normal areas of paint loss. Leather sword knot has some surface cracking in places, but remains supple.
A WW1 era 1897 pattern infantry officers sword with leather field scabbard. Standard pieced nickel plated guard, with cypher of George V. Shagreen grip with wire binding, chequered steel backpiece and knopped pommel. Steel single edged blade with single fuller to each side. Makers mark for Sanderson Brothers & Newbould Ltd Sheffield. Etched blade with George V cypher, crown and royal coat of arms. Leather covered scabbard for field service, with nickel throat. Approximately 103.5cm in scabbard. Condition: generally very good. Some light service wear to the nickel plating and scabbard, plus a little darkening to the blade in places.
