DRAGSTRIP GIRLOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine+ Folded American International, 1957The one sheet offered here is a great representation of the genre, mixing smoldering passion with forbidden excitement in a single image. The lurid, searing red and yellow colors serve to highlight these emotions, drawing potential viewers in inexorably. This folded poster has only light fold wear, including the three center point cross folds, a few minor scattered crimps, and a slight bleed-through from a stamp on the verso, but otherwise is an exceptionally clean copy.Following the end of World War II, Hollywood began to realize that there was a new class of moviegoers that they had yet to exploit: teenagers. Now, with increased mobility, disposable cash, and an almost insatiable desire for entertainment, the teen market has become one that Hollywood has begun to actively court. It was almost inevitable that the new teen genre would intersect with the established crime genre to create a new category of motion picture: the Juvenile Delinquent film. Remarkably, given the period, not all the JDs were male. Pictures like The Violent Years (1956) and Reform School Girl (1957) proved that girls could be just as delinquent as boys. Into this mix came Dragstrip Girl (1957), deftly mixing the JD genre with the famous - and illegal - sport of drag racing in a film about a young woman who loves speed, the thrills it brings, and the tragic consequences that result. STAR WARS: A NEW HOPEOne-Sheet (27" X 41"); From the Collection of Steven BengeVery Fine Rolled; Artist Tom Jung 20th Century Fox, R-1981For the second theatrical release of the classic, Fox used this eye-catching one-sheet.It is a very clean poster with only light sporadic crimping and edge wear, a crease on the lower right corner, and a faint reoccurring crease on the right side that can only be seen from close up. Otherwise, this rolled poster is very presentable.George Lucas' ground-breaking space opera, which defied all expectations to change the film industry forever. BLADE RUNNERBritish Quad (29.5" x 39.5")Very Fine- Folded Warner Bros., 1982A cool collage take of 80s sci-fi opus, this much lesser-seen British Quad of Blade Runner features both the lead characters and Ridley Scott's majestic backgrounds in tandem. This quad has general light sporadic fold wear, wear to the right center cross fold, and minor edge wear, including some tiny tears. There is an extra diagonal crease going from the upper left into the image background, but otherwise, the poster is in really good shape. Harrison Ford plays a former cop, a Blade Runner, who tracks and hunts down bioengineered humanoids known as "replicants" and terminally "retires" them. Directed by Ridley Scott and featuring impressive early work from Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos, Blade Runner is a visually stunning cult classic considered ahead of its time. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. STAR WARS: A NEW HOPEOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine Rolled; Artist Tom Jung 20th Century Fox, R-1982This 1982 reissue of A New Hope was evidence of the original title proposed for episode VI and advertised a preview of a trailer for Revenge of the Jedi.A rolled poster that has light scattered creasing and crimping mostly in the borders and a small faint bit of foxing in the upper white border that is only evident at really close inspection. Otherwise, this poster is in terrific condition.George Lucas' ground-breaking space opera, which defied all expectations to change the film industry forever. PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILESOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- Folded Paramount, 1987Offered here is the classic one sheet for this ever-popular film, with Martin and Candy visually depicting their contrasting characters: Martin's uptight, self-controlled corporate executive and Candy's larger-than-life, gregarious salesman. This very clean poster has two vertical folds as opposed to one. It has only minor fold wear, including some slight sporadic separation on some cross folds and fold ends, plus a tear in the upper right border, which has been backed with archival tape on the verso. There is also light general scattered crimping and a small dime-sized circle stain in the upper poster left in the background that is only noticeable from close examination. In the 1980s, you would have needed help finding two comedy stars bigger or more popular than Steve Martin and John Candy. So, it's no surprise that director John Hughes would team these comic superstars when casting Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987) as two mismatched, stranded travelers trying desperately to get home - over three long days - in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. A blockbuster motion picture that both Martin and Candy often cited as one of their favorites and which has now become an integral part of many Thanksgiving traditions. The stunning sequel to Star Wars, directed by veteran helmer Irvin Kershner. Widely considered to be the best episode in the saga, it benefitted hugely from bringing in screenwriter Leigh Brackett (The Big Sleep, Rio Bravo) to co-write with Lawrence Kasdan, and also for its unforgettable final twist. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. ALIENInsert (14" x 36")Very Fine- Folded 20th Century Fox, 1979With one of the most recognizable singular images in sci-fi movie history, the infamous cracking egg on the poster for Ridley Scott's Alien continued the disturbing mystery and intrigue put forth by the film itself. This is a more confined insert version of that poster. The images present well in this folded insert which has some minor general scattered crimping and creasing, as well as a few light scratches, including in the top left and center in the black background. Starting with the novel idea of setting a horror movie on a spaceship, Ridley Scott's second film, Alien, instigated one of cinema's most enduring franchises. With its fresh, blue-collar take on sci-fi, a steely female lead protagonist in Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, and a nightmarish creature designed by Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger, it is still regarded as one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. There is also a faint mark in the lower credits that can only be seen upon close inspection and some light bleed-through in the lower right corner from a stamp on the verso. Otherwise, the poster colors and images are bright and clean. With an all-star cast including Barbara Stanwyck, Clifton Webb, Robert Wagner, Thelma Ritter, and Richard Basehart, this movie faithfully retells the events of "the night the great ship went down."This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDIOne-Sheet (27.25" x 41"); Style B Autographed by Kazuhiko Sano (Beckett COA.). Near Mint Rolled; Artist Kazuhiko Sano 20th Century Fox, 1983This is the beautiful Style B, rolled one-sheet featuring Kazuhiko Sano's visceral portrait of Luke Skywalker with Darth Vader looming, which is also personally autographed by Sano himself. This one-sheet is immaculate with a few light scattered creases and edge crimps. The autograph is authenticated and includes an additional COA from Beckett Authentication Services. The concluding installment of the beloved original Star Wars trilogy, directed by Richard Marquand. After opening with a bravura rescue sequence at the palace of Jabba The Hutt, it lives up to the saga's title with an ambitious three-tier climactic battle, combining fierce starship dogfights, a forest conflict involving the teddy-bear-like Ewoks, and the ultimate lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and his father Darth Vader (David Prowse). This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. THE PARTYOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Style BVery Fine+ Folded; Artist Jack Davis United Artists, 1968This one-sheet, with an insanely complex image by Mad Magazine artist Jack Davis, perfectly captures the manic comedy on display in the film, on a par with Sellers' performances as Inspector Clouseau for sheer zaniness. This very clean poster has only minor light scattered crimping and two corner creases on the upper and lower right. The improvisational comedic genius of Peter Sellers is on full display in this brilliant - but criminally underrated - film, directed by Blake Edwards. The only non-Pink Panther collaboration between Edwards and Sellers, this is the story of buffoonish Indian actor Hrundi V. Bakshi (Sellers), and his hilarious misadventures as he attempts to navigate a Hollywood dinner party despite his total unfamiliarity with Western customs and etiquette. Inspired by the legendary work of famed French director Jacques Tati, especially Mr. Hulot's Holiday (1953), Sellers portrays a character that he had developed in previous productions such as The Millionairess (1960) and The Road to Hong Kong (1962), in which he essayed similar Indian roles. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. Tolkien's epic fantasy trilogy was this animated film from Ralph Bakshi, whose voice cast included John Hurt as Aragorn and Anthony Daniels as Legolas. THE WONDERFUL COUNTRYRobert Mitchum Gifted Cast/Crew Mug (4" x 4")Near Mint United Artists, 1959It was widely known that in the 1950s, actor John Wayne began a tradition of making specially engraved mugs for all the cast and crew on each of his projects. This mug is an example of actor Robert Mitchum carrying on that same tradition for the 1959 film The Wonderful Country. Made and given to cast and crew, this mug with a shiny handle has the film title, a hat and gun belt on one side, and "Cheers! Robert Mitchum" engraved on the other - a scarce insider piece of cinema history. This cup has only light spots of wear to the handle and base. The artwork and signature are unblemished. GOING TO GLORY...COME TO JESUSOne-Sheet & Lobby Card Set (8) (26.5" x 41" & 11" x 14")Very Fine Folded Toddy Pictures, R-late 1940s & 1946Offered here is a duo-tone one-sheet poster, eight full-color lobby cards, and the mailing envelope in which they were originally packaged for Gone to Glory…Come to Jesus (1946), a rather late entry in the race film category, is about an innocent and virtuous young woman who is led astray by a morally dubious companion and is soon making deals with the Devil to become beautiful and "hep," a dilemma that can only be overcome with prayer. It was distributed by Toddy Pictures, a white-owned business run by Ted Toddy that specialized in black films. Race pictures have seen renewed academic and popular attention since being run on cable's BET in the 1980s, and paper promoting them has steadily increased in value, especially considering their relative rarity when compared to mainstream films released at the same time. They represent a fascinating corner of Hollywood history that has yet to be fully explored, making this a unique and desirable offering that may never be repeated. The poster has light fold wear, including some tanning, and separation backed by archival tape on the verso. There's minor chipping to all the cross folds and the upper and lower center border. The Lobby Card set is in near mint condition with four small scattered pinholes on card 1 and a slight scratch on the left side slightly in the image of card 3. The rest are untouched. The envelope has edge wear but the title itself is clean.Throughout the first half of the 20th century, segregated theaters that catered to black audiences by showing "race films," typically featuring all-black casts often, but not always, made by black directors and primarily financed by white-owned businesses (much like the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s). The films of pioneering black filmmaker Oscar Micheaux found a home in these theaters, as did countless other movies that existed outside the mainstream. Stars like Herbert "The Bronze Buckaroo" Jeffries, Moms Mabley, Pigmeat Markham, and Mantan Moreland (whose bulging eyes made him instantly recognizable) were able to step out of the limited roles they found in typical Hollywood pictures as servants, sidekicks, or comic relief, in movies aimed at an audience that welcomed them. It's estimated that more than 500 race pictures were made during the years of segregated theaters by approximately 150 independent production companies. Sadly, fewer than 100 of these fascinating films still exist today. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. ETERNA WATCHESSwiss Advertising Poster (27.5" x 39")Fine Folded; Artist Fred Dubois C.1930sThis simple yet effective vintage 1930s Art Deco advertising poster for the luxury watch company Eterna is unique in that even though the poster itself is Swiss, the artist Fred Dubois is French and the poster is a German language version. This poster has had some light restoration work to both folds and some tears. But there is still both edge and fold wear, including small tears and tanning. A piece that is a perfect candidate for linen backing. Due to this modernization, the company found itself at the forefront of watch development, patenting its first alarm wristwatch in 1908, the first of many innovations it would introduce during its lifetime, including an eight-day watch in 1929 and the first affordable self-winding watch, released in 1948. STARSHIP TROOPERSJapanese B1 & Program Booklet (8 Pages) (28.5" x 40.5" & 10.25" x 14.25")Very Fine+ Rolled Buena Vista International/Tri-Star, 1997This is the much more nuanced and stylistic Japanese poster for Starship Troopers featuring the trooper helmet being skewered by an arachnid stinger. Also included is a terrific Japanese program book that has a fold-out section in the center, as well as eleven extra loose paper Japanese ads of all sizes with some duplicates that serve as a cool accompaniment. The poster is clean but has scattered light crimping and sporadic edge wear on the left and right sides. The program and additional pages are all in mint unused condition. RoboCop Director Paul Verhoeven once again brought a satirical edge to sci-fi with this interplanetary war movie based on the novel by Robert A. Heinlein. While following the fortunes of a group of fresh-faced teens in a war against arachnid-like aliens, the film skewered fascism and pro-war propaganda - though its subtleties were sadly lost on many critics and audiences at the time of release. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. BEAU GESTEAustralian Daybill (15" x 40")Very Fine- Rolled Paramount, 1939Offered here is a colorful Australian daybill featuring an iconic portrait of Cooper as the title character. A poster with very clean artwork that has mild edge wear, including fraying, chipping in the upper left, and tiny tears with some backed by tape on the verso. This one also has some staining from water damage in the lower border areas. In this 1939 classic, based on the 1924 novel by P.C. Wren, the inseparable Geste brothers (Beau, John, and Digby, played by Gary Cooper, Ray Milland, and Robert Preston, respectively) join the French Foreign Legion after one of them steals a priceless sapphire from their adoptive mother. A virtual scene-for-scene remake of the 1926 version starring Ronald Colman, the 1939 film was shot on the same sets and in the exact locations in Yuma, AZ as the original. Immensely popular in the United States, the movie was banned in Mussolini's Italy as it presented the British in too positive a light, leading officials to fear that it could undermine the fascist ideology that their government was based on. THE FUGITIVEOne-Sheet (27" x 40"); Recalled International StyleNear Mint Rolled, Full-Bleed Warner Bros., 1993While visually a far superior poster design to the primary US one-sheet, this advance "Reward" poster has an interesting backstory. It seems Harrison Ford objected to his actual name being used in the poster ("Wanted For Murder Harrison Ford") as opposed to that of his character Richard Kimble. As such, the poster was recalled. It is presented here with the entire Ford name on display. This near mint full-bleed poster has only some faint crimping and light edge wear in the upper area, otherwise, this one-sheet is super clean. Harrison Ford-led blockbuster adaptation of the 1960s TV series, in which Ford plays Dr. Richard Kimble, a man wrongly arrested for the murder of his wife before going on the run. Tommy Lee Jones won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for portraying the tenacious US Marshal hot on Kimble's heels. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. THE TWO MRS. CARROLLSOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- Folded Warner Bros., 1947The one-sheet has pinholes in the corners and light edge wear. The scotch tape supports all three center points, and the lower middle section of the vertical fold and the left half of the lower horizontal fold are also reinforced with scotch tape. Humphrey Bogart, Barbara Stanwyck, and Alexis Smith star in this dramatic stage-play adaptation, in which Bogart plays a painter with dark designs on his new wife, portrayed by Stanwyck. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. WOODSTOCKOne-Sheet (27" x 40.25"); Chevelle StyleVery Fine Rolled Warner Bros., 1970This is a rare "Chevelle" style advance poster, named after the car featured in the image. There were three styles of posters in this advance posters series, this being one of the favorites among collectors.A clean poster with minor wear including light wear to the lower edge, a clean cut in the upper part of the word "this," which has been backed with scotch tape on the verso, and some light bleed-over of red color into the upper white area of the poster. The image and poster itself are very presentable. From August 15 to 18, 1969, more than 400,000 people descended on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, for "3 days of peace & music," a festival that would gain international fame as "Woodstock" and become emblematic of the counterculture era. With such legendary musicians as Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, the Grateful Dead, Sha-Na-Na, Richie Havens, Joan Baez, The Who, Arlo Guthrie, Jefferson Airplane, and Jimi Hendrix, it was one of the largest music festivals ever held and a pivotal moment in popular music history. Fortunately, the landmark event was memorialized in a spectacular documentary, which became a smashing commercial and critical success, grossing more than $50 million in the United States against a budget of a mere $600,000. DON DARE-DEVILOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ Folded Universal, 1925This killer stone litho one sheet features a heroic and resolute Hoxie as Jack Bannister, protecting the lovely Ynez Remado (Cathleen Calhoun) from the villainous Bud Latham (Duke R. Lee) in a tense standoff. This folded poster has edge wear with small edge tears and chipping. There is also light fold wear with separation on the three center point cross folds. Jack Hoxie (1885-1965) was a major Western star of the silent era. Unlike many of his contemporaries, however, Hoxie was a real cowboy, rodeo competitor, and ranch hand, having honed these skills during his formative years in Northern Idaho. His first leading role came in 1919 as the title character in Lightning Bryce, a 15-episode serial from Arrow Film Corp. His fame grew tremendously during the 1920s when he became a well-known and well-beloved star, as big as any of his Western contemporaries. As one of the pioneers of the Western genre in film, Hoxie's contributions to the medium cannot be ignored. It was Hoxie who helped shape the image of the upright, white-hatted working cowboy hero, and his influence can be seen in such later stars as Randolph Scott and John Wayne, the inheritors of his mantle. FLESH GORDONBritish Quad (30" x 40")Very Fine Rolled; Artist Sam Peffer Mammoth Films, 1974The striking and colorful British Quad poster offered here, measuring 30" x 40", features the outstanding work of well-known science fiction artist George Barr, whose work is famous for combining pen-and-ink line work with pastel watercolors for a vivid and unique appearance. A clean quad with only a few minor scattered crimps and light sporadic edge wear, including creasing and tiny tears. As should be evident from the title, Flesh Gordon was a campy, soft-core porn parody of the classic 1936 science-fiction serial Flash Gordon. What sets this film apart from most other porn parodies, however, is the presence of such future Hollywood special effects luminaries as Mike Minor, Greg Jein, and Rick Baker, as well as established stop-motion animators Jim Danforth and Dave Allen. This incredible infusion of talent gives the film impeccable quality that few adult films can boast. Not surprisingly, Universal, the studio that made the 1936 classic, initially objected to the film on the grounds of plagiarism, which explains the prominent disclaimer on the poster, "Not to be confused with the original "Flash Gordon." Flesh Gordon has developed a dedicated cult following in the intervening years and is now viewed more as a vintage burlesque-like parody than a routine pornographic movie. BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINAOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Studio StyleNear Mint Rolled; Artist Drew Struzan 20th Century Fox, 1986The poster for John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China is the perfect amalgamation of everything that makes the film itself so memorable. Sorcery, mysticism, martial arts, good vs. evil, and Kurt Russell's bumbling would-be-hero Jack Burton, right in the middle of everything. With only some light minor sporadic edge wear and a small crimp in the lower left, this poster is in mint condition.John Carpenter's supernatural martial arts movie channeling action adventure was a commercial failure, but thanks to its impressive visuals and a brilliantly tongue-in-cheek performance by Kurt Russell as lunky action hero Jack Burton, it's since found a fervent following. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. LONE RANGER AND THE CITY OF LOST GOLD, THE (1958Six Sheet (81" x 81")Fine- on Linen United Artists, 1958The massive six-sheet offered here, mounted on linen and ready for display, perfectly captures the heroism of the Lone Ranger in a poster as big as his legend, with a striking image of Moore as the character with which he is most associated. This poster, now on linen, has had restoration to previous issues, including edge and fold wear with tearing, chipping, creasing, separation, and some light paper loss. There have been touch-ups to both fold wear and to sporadic spots and now the poster displays well.Clayton Moore is fondly remembered by an entire generation of fans as the Lone Ranger, the Masked Rider who roamed the plains with his Indian partner Tonto (Jay Silverheels), fighting for truth and justice in the old West. Armed with his signature silver bullet, which served as a reminder of the value of human life, the Ranger valiantly battled the forces of evil on both the small and big screens. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. JAMES BOND: LIVE AND LET DIEOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Western HemisphereVery Fine- Folded; Artist Robert McGinnis United Artists, 1973An overall clean poster with only mild wear, including slight separation on the cross folds and fold line ends, soft corners, some sporadic edge wear, and general light scattered crimping. After Sean Connery retired from the role of superspy James Bond, the torch passed to Roger Moore, an actor known for his portrayal of wealthy adventurer and Robin Hood-like crusader Simon Templar in TV's The Saint, based on the novels by Leslie Charteris. Unlike Connery's brutal, gritty portrayal of 007, Moore's Bond was more dashing and urbane, with a wicked sense of humor to go with his license to kill. Some saw the change as catastrophic, fearing that the Bond franchise was veering into parody compared to the Connery classics. Still, for many, Moore defined the character through seven feature films between 1973 and 1985. The first of Moore's outings was the film, Live and Let Die (1973), set against a voodoo background in New Orleans and a distinctly urban environment in Harlem, and drawing more than a bit of inspiration from the spate of Blaxploitation films that were popular in the early 1970s. THE LONG GOODBYEOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- Folded; Artist Richard Amsel United Artists, 1973A poster in terrific condition with light sporadic smudging in the lower areas, minor fold line wear, slight separation in the upper and lower cross-fold center points, and some foxing on the verso in the upper right that does not bleed through."Long Goodbye" is a witty and clever adaptation of Raymond Chandler's crime novel from 1953. It was written by Leigh Brackett and directed by Robert Altman. Elliott Gould played the lead role of Philip Marlowe, who is portrayed in a very different way from the original novel. The story is set in 1970s Hollywood, which gives it a fresh new twist. Arnold Schwarzenegger also appears briefly in a non-speaking role as "Hood in Augustine's Office".This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. With hits both before and after leaving the army, Elvis created a slew of well-known romantic musicals and popcorn flicks that are well-remembered. From the Collection of Jason Newsted, a huge Elvis fan and the former bassist of the iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame heavy metal band Metallica. Not all posters are inside a framed shadow box, meaning an exact grade is not available. Condition and grade are based on a visual look at the front of each poster. Upon inspection, it seems all posters have been linen mounted and then framed. All the posters have light fold wear, and some have minor touchups. Double Trouble has a single pinhole in the upper right area, Speedway pinholes in the borders and Live a Little, Love a Little has some faint tanning on folds. DARK PASSAGEOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ Folded Warner Bros., 1947This captivating folded poster has staple marks in all four corners, light sporadic creasing and fold line wear, and some small smudging in the lower area and in the upper left corner. There is also minor separation in the upper and lower cross-fold center points and some faint lower credit bleed over into the upper area from being folded that is barely noticeable and does not affect the overall presentation. Some light stamp bleed from the verso and an embossed NSS stamp in the right-hand corner. The third in the series of four films to feature the dynamic duo of Bogart and Becall, Dark Passage was released in late 1947. THE ITALIAN JOBOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine- Folded Paramount, 1969A very clean folded poster with only faint general scattered crimping, light separation of the cross folds, and sporadic staple marks in the borders. In this sparkling British crime comedy, Michael Caine stars as Charlie Croker, a Cockney crook who, newly released from jail, decides to pull off the heist of a lifetime: the daring theft of $4 million in gold bullion being transported through Turin, Italy to make a downpayment on a new automobile factory. His outstanding performance as Croker, arguably the role for which he is best known, ignited his career. Since then, Caine has been one of the hardest-working actors on screen, often appearing in several films in a year. Likewise, this film, which was a massive hit in Great Britain - named one of the top 10 British films by the British Film Institute - and has become a true classic, celebrated for its unforgettable dialogue ("You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"), and one of the most spectacular car chases ever caught on film as three Mini-Coopers careen through Turin. THE COTTON CLUBSpecial Italian Poster (55" x 109")Fine+ Folded Orion, 1984While the imagery here for Francis Ford Coppola's The Cotton Club may be simple, the visual effect of both the trumpet and movie title on such a massive size via this special Italian poster makes for one truly memorable display. A folded poster with standard extra light bends running parallel with the horizontal fold lines, scattered creasing, some border edge wear including tiny tears and crimping, plus there are two tears, one only in the left lower border and the other a longer one on the left side center that goes into the black background - both are reinforced on the back with archival tape. But the poster itself has a clean image and is in decent condition.Francis Coppola transported audiences to 1930s Harlem with this crime drama focused on the musicians and dancers at a jazz club, where they mix with members of New York's underworld. Richard Gere stars alongside Gregory Hines, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, and Nicolas Cage. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDIBritish Quad (27.5" x 40"); London Undergorund StyleNear Mint Rolled; Artist Josh Kirby 20th Century Fox, 1983Unlike traditional British quads, this one was printed at slightly smaller dimensions for the London Underground. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. GO APE!Planet Of The Apes Film Festival One-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ Folded 20th Century Fox, 1974In 1974, this poster was used after the release of Battle of the Planet of the Apes, the last in the four original Ape movies, and just before the TV series release of only 14 episodes. This is the rarer of the two similar posters announcing the release of all four Fox features at a theater. The other poster is an advertising poster announcing the television series on CBS.While the ape image itself is untouched, there are other issues, including pinholes in the corners, as well as some in the borders and two in the lower credits. There is also scattered creasing, corner crimping, some light staining in the upper left and lower right borders, warping around all three vertical folds on the left side, off-center folding of the poster itself, and finally, a hand-drawn arrow in red marker pointing to the box for Battle for the Planet of the Apes.Over five movies, the saga of the Planet of the Apes (aka our very own Earth - spoiler alert!) took audiences on a fascinating time-loop journey via the planet's complete destruction in 1970 sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes and '70s America in 1971's Escape From the Planet of the Apes, to the not-too-distant future in '72's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and '73's dismal finale Battle For the Planet of the Apes. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. HARLEM ON THE PRAIRIEOne-Sheets (2) (27.5" x 42" & 28" x 40.5")Fine+ Folded Toddy Pictures, R-1940sThe two one sheets offered here are two different styles distributed by Toddy Productions, a white-owned company that specialized in handling Black films. One features Jeffries and co-star Connie Harris, the other, likely from a later re-release, spotlights supporting player Mantan Moreland, no doubt capitalizing on the fame he attained as Birmingham Brown, chauffer to the title character in the Charlie Chan series, beginning in 1944. Both are spectacular examples of a page from motion picture history that is slowly but surely receiving the attention it deserves. The image area for both posters is very clean and bright. The first poster which features Matan Moreland under the title has some general fold wear, including tanning and light separation. Plus, there's chipping to both the lower cross fold and right side center border. The second with Herbert Jeffries above the title has general edge and fold wear, slight separation on the upper and lower cross folds, and chipping in the right center and upper left borders. There's also a folded long corner in the bottom left.Throughout the first half of the 20th century, segregated theaters that catered to black audiences by showing "race films," typically featuring all-black casts often, but not always, made by black directors and primarily financed by white-owned businesses (much like the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s). NORTH BY NORTHWESTBritish Quad (30" X 40")Very Fine- Rolled MGM, R-1962This is the early reissue of this famous title and perhaps as scarce as the original quad. The items should be easily removable in restoration. This quad has some faint ghosting from being folded plus two snipes, including one at the top left and lower right. There is also light edge and fold wear, including some crimping and creasing. This poster would be a terrific candidate for restoration.Celebrated espionage adventure by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Cary Grant as a man mistaken for a secret agent, leading to a high-stakes chase across the United States. THE EXORCISTOne-Sheet & Special Poster (27" x 41" & 18.5" x 24.5")Very Fine+ Folded; Artist Bill Gold Warner Bros., 1974Featuring the now infamous image of Max von Sydow's Father Merrin arriving at the MacNeil home under the ominous street lamp in shadow, Bill Gold's poster for William Friedkin's The Exorcist is a terrific example of conveying much with so little. Offered here is the original one-sheet for the film plus the striking black and white special promo poster that is very seldom seen. Both posters have very minor typical fold wear, with the one-sheet having some light crimping. Otherwise, both posters are in terrific condition. William Friedkin's disturbing story of demonic possession, "The Exorcist," holds the distinction of being the first horror film to ever receive an Oscar nomination. It is regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. Its reputation has been further solidified by reports of preview audience members running out of the theater in terror, and viewers suffering from nausea. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. TRONJapanese B2 (20.5" x 29"); Style BVery Fine Folded Buena Vista, 1982This colorful Japanese B2 puts bright and bravery on display in the form of the defiant character of Tron dead center, showing off the film's impressive visual savvy much more than other poster versions. It is a very clean and overall presentable poster image with only general light scattered crimping, plus edge wear to the right side backed by some archival tape. When Steven Lisberger first saw the video game Pong, he was inspired to write a story that took place entirely within the software world of a mainframe computer. Starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and David Warner, the film received mixed-to-positive reviews on its initial release but has become a cult classic in the years since, spawning a sequel (Tron: Legacy) and a TV series (Tron: Uprising). GODZILLA VS. THE THINGInsert (14" x 36")Very Fine Folded; Artist Reynold Brown American International, 1964The insert offered here features key art by renowned poster artist Reynold Brown, who was directed to obscure the "Thing," in order to build anticipation for the film, regardless of the fact that Mothra, the film that introduced the titular "Thing," had been released in America several years previously. Whether the giant question mark was his idea or came from the distributor as part of their brief to him is anyone's guess. At any rate, Brown was paid a mere $350 for his efforts in creating an image that has become iconic in the intervening years. For the collector of kaiju films, Godzilla pictures, monster movie paper, or just great poster art, the insert as offered here is perhaps the rarest format for the American release of this title. An insert with minor scattered creasing, plus some light edge wear including tiny tears and crimping, as well as a small crease in the lower left corner. The images are bright and clean.Released initially as Mothra vs. Godzilla (Mosura tai Gojira), this was the fourth film in the Godzilla franchise following the incredible success of King Kong vs. Godzilla (Kingu Kongu tai Gojira) two years previously. For this film, Toho Studios decided once again to feature their king Kaiju with another massive antagonist, this time with the giant moth that had debuted in the self-titled Mothra (Mosura) in 1961. This film represents a valid turning point for the franchise, as it marks the last time that Godzilla would appear as a "heavy," becoming a powerful defender of humanity with the next film, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (San Daikaijū: Chikyū Saidai no Kessen, literally Three Giant Monsters: Earth's Greatest Battle, 1964).This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace.
