LEON UNDERWOOD [1890-1975]. Seated Nude, 1922. Drypoint etching, edition of 50 [the first, 1/50]. Signed and dated, 15 x 11 cm. A very rare print and we believe only a few were ever printed. Literature: ‘Leon Underwood’, C. Neve, Thames & Hudson, 1974, p.60, described as ‘a lovely drypoint of a seated life model that retains tremendous spontaneity and attack in drawing despite the mechanics of the medium’. [good condition – unexamined out of frame].
The next 50 lots are by featured artist Leon Underwood [1890-1975]: Underwood is a major UK artist, best known for his innovative sculpture – he was a carver and modeller and taught Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. He was also a great print-maker especially in the 1920s and a painter. The Tate Gallery collection includes 8 of his sculptures and paintings. There are currently 2 books on his work. HUBERT DALWOOD, R.A. [1924-76]. St Ives Harbour, 1949. Etching and aquatint. Signed and dated, 17 x 11 cm. Provenance: Gimpel Fils Gallery, London; Belgrave Gallery, London; Private collection, UK. Another of these prints sold at Bonhams auction, 25 May 2010, lot 26, for over £1100 total. [good condition – unexamined out of frame].

One of Underwood’s most important early prints. [good condition, tiny foxing spot on banjo – unexamined out of frame].
MICHAEL AYRTON [1921-75]. Minotaur Pent, 1971. Etching, artist’s proof V111/X [the proofs were printed first, prior to the edition of 75 prints]. Signed in pencil, 58 x 77 cm. A rare signed Minotaur etching - the majority of the edition were unsigned, bearing only the studio stamp signature. Literature: ‘Michael Ayrton’, P. Cannon-Brookes, 1978, Birmingham CAG, p.99. LED ZEPPELIN - III - A great 1st UK pressing. This pressing has 'Produced by Jimmy Page, Executive Producer Peter Grant' credits, 'Do What Thou Wilt' etching and housed in a gatefold cover with rotating wheel. The vinyl is in Ex+ condition with perhaps one or two extremely wispy marks. The laminated sleeve is Ex with minor lamination wear on the reverse.
