The slots are bridged by circles of heavy silver and marked on the upper portion of the guard “I B” in Roman, capitals surmounted by crown in a conforming punch and on the underside of the knuckle bow is a different hallmark, “I B” in a rectangular punch separated with a crown bearing more lobes above. The grips are completely covered with four strands of chevron-shaped twisted wire in between each flat band. There is a red felt buffer between the hilt and the blade. The straight tapered spadroon blade has a broad center fuller and a smaller rudimentary fuller. The etching on the blade is vine work with a crude patriotic eagle and stars around the head and a stand of arms on both sides. Hilt: 5-1/4”. Total: 32”.
