δ Robin Tanner (British 1904 - 1988) - The Hedger Etching, 1928 Signed and dated ( and numbered VIII , in pencil 10 x 15cm (3 7/8 x 5 7/8in.) Robin Tanner (1904 - 1988) was an English artist, etcher and printmaker influenced working in the English Neo-Romanticism tradition. Inspired by a Samuel Palmer retrospective exhibition in 1926, Tanner took up etching at night-school classes at Goldsmiths College, London. As H.M. Inspector of Schools between 1935 - 1964 Tanner shared his passion for teaching fine art with young children throughout the country, believing that the study of natural things and exploration of art, music and poetry were essential for the development of teachers and children. Upon his retirement in 1964, Tanner again turned to full-time print-making, as well as the publication of a number of books on print-making aimed at children, in collaboration with his wife, Heather Spackman.
