Norman Wilkinson CBE RI (British 1878-1971): Fishing on the Lake, drypoint etching signed in pencil 23cm x 31cm Condition Report & Further Details There is a stain in the sky above left hand figure and a smaller stain higher up and in the centre of picture. NICHOLSON BEN: (1894-1982) British Painter. A.L.S., with his initials B N, to the verso of a picture postcard, the image depicting Nicholson's artwork The Master (1941), Brissago, 18th September 1968, to John Russell. Nicholson informs his correspondent, in part, 'That old etching affair… back here in tact & has gone off again to 5 W St. Suppose that is alright & that you will be there & not S. America.' Together with a signed and inscribed Christmas greetings card by Nicholson, the stiff white folding 8vo card featuring a colour image of The Adoration of the Child with St. John the Baptist. Signed ('Ben') in bold blue ink beneath a printed greeting, the artist further adding, 'PS What a magnificent Dagda you sent me! Bless you & thank you, B' in his hand. With light age wear, about VG, 2John Russell (1919-2008) British Art Critic.

REMBRANDT HARMENSZ VAN RIJN (1606-1669) 'Jan Cornelis Sylvius', signed and dated 1633 within the plate, the reverse inscribed in ink with a monogram in a 17th century hand, etching, the sheet 17.5cm x 14.75cm, mounted on a card, the top corners stuck down; together with another etching 'Peasant in a high cap, standing on a stick', signed and dated 1639 within the image, 8cm x 4.5cm (2) Jan Cornelis Sylvius (1564-1638), a preacher in the Dutch Reformed Church in Amsterdam beginning in 1610, was the legal guardian of Rembrandt's wife-to-be, Saskia van Uylenburgh, at the time this portrait was made. It was to Sylvius that Rembrandt made his appeal for Saskia's hand. This portrait undoubtedly helped engineer the old man's consent, for Saskia and Rembrandt married the year after its completion. His hands clasped over his Bible and his head covered by a skullcap, the early Sylvius (Rembrandt executed another, posthumously, in 1646), conveys the asceticism of this religious scholar.
